Malik "Top 10 ain't good enough for me" McDowell falls out of the first round

Submitted by SAMgO on

I'm sure many of you remember this quote:

"Top 10 ain’t good enough for me, I ain’t leaving if I’m (only) Top 10. If I’m not top three, I don’t leave."

Pride comes before the fall.

MSU declared moral victory. So if you could go ahead and re-edit that strikethrough.

Obvously we're going to need to deploy chemical weapons in order to decisively beat MSU. Simply using the old point method isn't gonna work.

Despite their dominance, OSU will gnash teeth and call for Urban's head after their next loss to UM. And THAT's why OSU is our primary rival.

That's what she said.

(Do you see what I did there? I both made a joke about your comment, PLUS used a worn-out joke to do so, in keeping with the spirit of this sub-thread about worn-out jokes. I am very, very clever)

I am quite possibly the most humble person in the history of the world. No one does humble like I do it, and I am not afraid to tell everyone just how humble I am!

If the story is true, that could be part of the problem.  If he was swayed by their laxed academic policy, he made a bad decision.  It's one that a lot of kids would and do make, though.

Although I'm glad MSU is eating a big bag of dicks, I do feel bad for the kid.  If he'd followed his mom's advice and gone to Michigan, I believe things would have turned out much differently for him.

Are you kidding?  His mom had to make a public fool of herself, and had to bear the ire of the spartan fandom later, all so she could get him to not go there.... and he chooses them anyway, because he heard he didn't have to go to class... he wanted to take it easy.    Then, he disses their program on the way out.    He got what he deserved.  You reap what you sow.  17-18 years old or not, he still had a mind of his own, and he made his bed.

Do you think those of us who attended Michigan, decided to take it easy, in high school?  Every time it was so, I turned it away...and I was a minor.   So were everyone else who got into the school... they earned it.

Don't you think a lot of kids don't take the easy way out, when given the chance? High achievers who make it into schools like Michigan on academics alone, unfortunately, aren't the norm. It's part of the reason that it's easier to recruit to schools like MSU, Alabama, etc. I'm just saying if he'd sought a better culture, he might not have slipped out of the top 10, let alone the first round.

Sure, however his parents had to resort to publicly fighting and pleeing, and one has to think, that if our parents would stick out their neck like that, that maybe, you know, he should consider it.    His mother, incognito, was told by fellow players, of the drugs and not having to go to class, and she relayed that.. .that cat was out of bag, and he chose it nonetheless. He made his bed. All I meant to say is that there should be zero reason to "feel sorry" for him.

When you are playing and meeting with Wormley and Glasgow, I'm guessing the leaders he follows would put him on a different path.  It sounds like he played out of position, which wouldn't have been the case if he played at Michigan.

His mom was right, but teenagers think they know a lot. Oh well.

“Top 10 ain’t good enough for me,” McDowell told the Detroit Free Press at Michigan State media day. “I ain’t leaving if I’m (only) Top 10. If I’m not top three, I don’t leave. Really. I’m just trying to live day by day. It’s one through three, that’s the only way I’m going. I’m happy, I like it here, I ain’t really in a rush to leave.
