MAC on Bolden Targeting

Submitted by J.W. Wells Co. on

Was in a meeting this morning with a guy who is apparently a pretty good friend of a veteran MAC football official.  They've talked the past few weeks, and it seems the MAC has given its officials a bulletin specifically on the Bolden vs. MSU targeting call, to the effect of, "Guys, that's not how we call it."

So there's that.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Unless I'm making it myself, I rarely find coffee that I'm happy with.

Good fresh beans, medium or light roast. I like a lot of Central American coffee, and some African varieties as well.

Burr mill grinder (a good one)

French press

Distilled water

That is what makes good coffee. There are other methods, but this one works really well for me.

...from Kona.

$ 30 per pound but primo.

Also Three Stone from the Big Island.

I have no financial interest in either, but admit I am friends with the grower/producer of the former.

Question: What is the Italian word for "small?"

(also accepted: "not 'tall'"*)

The small-medium-large scheme has worked for hundreds of years for thousands of purveyors of retail goods.  I don't see why Starbucks should think they've made it any better with their own terminoogy.

Tall is not actually the "small" size at Starbucks.  It's the medium size, and short is the small.  It actually goes:  Short, tall, grande, venti, trenta.  Short and tall used to be the only options available a long time back, but our good ol' insatiable American appetite for caffeine and excess changed that and caused Starbucks to have to wing it with the naming convention.

It's less of American appetite than American Corporate greed of 'grow grow grow' which leads them to devise newer ways to charge consumers. Most people just stick to a portion size they are comfortable in. I buy the 'large' drink at McD because that's for a buck and I 'feel' I am getting a better deal buying that versus a small or medium.

Anyway, if there's someone to be blamed for excess size, it's the marketing department and not the consumer.

Play over flag?

Maybe covered previously but during our game with the Minny there was a play that was actually over and the refs huddled quickly following the play to discuss, and then the one ref drops the flag and we were penalized.   Didn't pass the logic test to me.   It would be easier to pick up a flag than to throw it after the play is over...because the play is over.

The targeting rule is a fucking joke. The ejection is also a fucking joke. Call a 15-yard penalty and give the automatic first down; I'm fine with that. Hell, make it a 20-yard penalty if it makes them feel better, but the ejection thing is a travesty.
