Submitted by jgunnip on December 4th, 2010 at 12:19 PM

Arguably the biggest game in the history of our young program. Winner secures a trip to the Final Four in Santa Barbara next weekend and some major national TV face time.

A couple of articles preveiwing all the Elite 8 matchups here, (http://www.collegesoccernews.com/). North Carolina, who knocked off MSU last weeked, defeated SMU in PKs last night (their thrid staight win on PKs) and is the first time to punch their ticket.

Michigan is being very sloppy in the defensiev third. The offense has gotten some opportunities but Maryland doing of a good job of pressuring the ball.

At some point, I have a feeling Michigan is going to have to take a risk and go hard at the goal to get this thing tied up before it gets to be 0-2

0-2 may be to hard to come back from !

Our skill level looks very good.  Our foot speed (and other fast twitch movements) are severly lacking though.  The defenders are in the right place until the Maryland players start running (by them).  Almost everything we do, except that 4 on 2 break is getting to the ball and playinig backward or kicking it long.  I might blame the cold weather for our speed, but that shouldn't be an issue for us.

1-0 Maryland at the half.

Slight possession advantage for Maryland and they really controlled the middle portion of the half but the quality scoring chances have been there for both teams and you definitely get the feeling there are more goals coming inthe game.
