M softball on a roll, now 11-0
Stephanie Speierman tossed a complete game this afternoon by defeating the University of Northern Florida 4-1. The lone UNF run was unearned and she scattered 5 hits over 7 innings with 9Ks and 2BB. She took a scoreless game into the 7th but the defense could not hold it for her.
For the season Stephanie is 6-0 with an ERA of 2.08. She has 35Ks and 16BB. Her opponent BA is .175.
The offense was led by Bree Evans who went 2 for 2, scoring 2 runs. Amanda Chidester went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI. Nicole Sappingfield, Lindsay Doyle and Taylor Hasselbach each had 1 hit each
For the season the team is batting .392, with an OBP of .492 while taking 55 BB and giving up 49Ks.
The defense played like crap today, making 3, uncharacteristic errors. One, of which, resulted in the lone run. Hutch cannot be happy with that. The team is gelling just fine, there is little to worry about. The offense has 55 BB compared to 49Ks, this indicates the team is seeing the ball well.
The pitching has been dominate this year with 78Ks and only 16 BB. A good team will have a 2 to 1, strikeout to bb ratio. We have a nearly 5 to 1 ratio. This team will go deep in the playoffs for sure, baring any injuries.
We play again tonight at 8pm. It should be streamed if anyone cares to watch a championship caliber team. Go to the softball page on Mgoblue.com.

We are driving over from Jacksonville to Orlando in the morning to see the team in action at the UCF Invitational. One bonus of living in Florida is we get to see the team live in the Spring against some good competition just about every year. It's great to be sitting in the warm sun wearing the maize and blue. (Apologies to my friends back home.)
Oh, and thank you for the updates on this site, we appreciate it.

Thanks for all the updates! I don't follow softball, so it's nice to see these posted here. Go Blue!

As a softball coach myself, I really enjoy following the ladies. I follow softball almost as much as I follow football.
For those who do not follow softball, it is a huge feat for a cold weather team to perform so well, and year after year to boot. It is nice to practice indoors but there is nothing that can compare to practicing on dirt.
So it is difficult to get the kids out of class for any length of time to go south where there is dirt to play on. Hutch is the (wo)MAN

One of my friends in college was on UM's baseball team, and I remember him talking about how big of a disadvantage it was to be in a cold climate. Kudos to the softball team for killing it, even in the snow and ice!

Coach Huchtinson is an amazing woman. She came and talked in Bacon's class and I was blown away by her. She really is a trailblazer.

is doing a wonderful job of allowing So. Pitcher Stephanie Speierman grow into her own. Thus far through 11 games, Stephanie and Jordan Taylor have thrown to the same amount of batters, although JT has much better stats.
It is good to see Hutch groom the next generation of pitchers.
