M-Shadow Mentor

I receive the Ann Arbor SPARK e-newsletter, and just came across this little blurb.  If you're interested in having a football player shadow your business for a day, here's your chance:

Become a M-Shadow Mentor, TODAY
Help a Current Michigan Student-Athlete Make the Right Career Decisions
Student Athletes at the University of Michigan are highly competitive, disciplined and focused  - attributes often prized in the business world. Their combined commitment to academics and athletics also makes time a precious resource often limiting a student's ability to explore possible careers. The M-Shadow Program is designed to offer targeted student-athletes the opportunity to shadow local business leaders in the industry of their choice. The Student-Athlete Development Program of the University of Michigan is planning the first "M-Shadow" half day internship program for student athletes. The program is set to begin on July 1, 2010 and conclude on August 6, 2010.

As the program is piloted, the first focus is on current University of Michigan football players. In terms of expectations for the mentors providing a shadowing opportunity, it's largely up to the mentor to plan a half-day experience that they feel best relates to their career or business. Some mentors may choose to stay with the student themselves for the experience while others may divide the time with other staff members at their business to offer a broader perspective. The most important thing is to show a student-athlete what your "world" is about, be open to questions, and have fun. There's no prep work to do, no presentation to write, only a few hours of your time to make an immeasurable difference to a young person. The participating companies will have the opportunity to positively influence the lives of promising future leaders simply by showing student-athletes a brief glimpse into different types of jobs in a variety of industries.

We are looking for M-Shadow mentors in all career fields. We will require a 30-minute conference call for compliance training prior to any site visits. The student-athlete will receive a one-day career readiness training seminar prior to visiting companies. Additionally, your feedback will be used to create a career advising/planning program for each student-athlete. Once you decide to join our M-Shadow team, students will be given a list of mentors and career paths to choose from and will contact you to identify an M-Shadow day that works best for both of your busy schedules.
