M Hoops v. Penn State Open Thread (?)

Submitted by ijohnb on
Wow, how far we have fallen. Half way through the first half and no open thread. There should be a drinking game called "drink when Walton misses a 3." People would get WASTED. 11-9 Penn State, 12 minutes to go 1st half.

GARBAGE. Im starting to get sick and tired of this.. On the road against Iowa is understandable. But this? This is unacceptable, these guys play with no passion whatsoever.

Coach is a great guy, just not a great Top 10 team coach. Atmosphere is stale at Crisler and the team is just not good enough. Since Harbaugh's arrival everything has changed for all teams. Mediocrity is not acceptable.

this team mirrors them to a T.  when they play well, the team looks good.  however, as leaders they are lacking. they both show little fire in the belly.  great guys mind you, but almost no fire.  they are missing the "intangibles".  they are supporting actors and not built to be vocal team leaders like burke, stauskus or even novak.  i don't think they make their teamates better on the court or with vocal nudging.

Me too. I actually downgraded my PlayStation Vue package after football season (BTN is not on the entry level package where I live). I'm only saving $5 a month but it's totally worth not being able to watch this mediocrity.

There's literally no excuse for this. Everyone is healthy.

And this is what we are.

And you know I like Beilein. But I cannot defend this if this is what this season is going to be. Even if we come back and win this game, this is a program issue.

Too much parameter pussy stuff ... and then none of them can make a 3-pointer. Wilson is the worst defensive player I have ever seen for his size. I would design the offense around Robinson because at least he can play solid defense.

dude needs to man-up. Stop the whimpy reach-in fouls and hit somebody. If you are going to foul, enforce your will and make an f-ing statement. Otherwise Robinson needs more minutes togain some quality 3-point shots becasue Wilson is a net detriment otherwise.

I'll say this. Historically, Michigan has been a second tier basketball program on a level with OSU, Arkansas, Arizona, Syracuse, and UConn (outside of their weird success in the tourney). That means a run here or there with a FF and some other deep runs in the tourney, but some years in the mid-seed range and some years on the bubble. Michigan hasn't had their Boeheim, Calhoun, Olsen that really defined their program.

Fisher had 8 full years and made 2 title games and another Elite 8 while missing the tournament twice. Frieder missed the tournament his first four years and then made it six straight with the NC team in '89. Orr and Strack seemed to have a string of success sandwiched by down years.

So, ultimately Beilein is around the typical Michigan coach going back to the modern age of college hoops (Strack and Orr most likely would've made additional tournaments with an expanded field). This is Year 10. He missed Year 1 and Year 3 and then the year from hell. So, basically, he's made the tourney 5 of the last 6 years.

That said, there has been obvious regression from the upper class men and the team looks dead. Beilein sits there on the bench looking disappointed and like a sad grandpa.

I honestly don't know whether it's time to move on or not. And that's why Warde gets paid the big bucks.

I've been reading up on the Christian Wilkins crotch grab that missed during the Fiesta Bowl.  That was more enjoyable than the crotch punch the hoops team is getting right now.

There is just no ball movement...it is dribble shoot, dribble shoot....4 assists in the first half, plus we are getting killed on the boards.  Coach should really consider sitting a couple starters until they understand that they need to play with more urgency.  Maybe a couple of the freshmen will bring the energy needed to at least wake up the rest of the team.

When you can't get a single athlete to commit there is a problem ! Livers looks like he can play but when you have a team full of projects you are going nowhere ! Walton 2 pts 0 asts so far . Having more fun reading about Najee than watching the game .

Coach needs to put in more aggressive players. Wagner nees to play way more physical - challenge him to use his body and get more tough-ass fouls. The reach-in crap is whimpy. Use the body and shove their ass back to Happy Valley. If he can't, Donnell is glad to do that. We need an "enforcer" to show some direction for this team.
