Former Pioneer QB Furrha to walk-on at Michigan Tuesday, January 06, 2009 Ann Arbor News Former Pioneer High School quarterback Nader Furrha will enroll this week as a recruited walk-on at the University of Michigan after turning down football scholarship offers from Grand Valley State and Saginaw Valley State. http://www.mlive.com/annarbor/stories/index.ssf?/base/preps-0/123125641… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_EIV5S9vXc&eurl=http://b5.boards2go.com…

Not only that, but Griese was recruited and offered a scholarship by us. It's just that we ran out of scholarships by the time he committed, so he officially enrolled as a walk-on (but quickly was given a scholarship when one opened up). His "walk-on turned champion" story is cute, but very misleading.

Furrha actually looks pretty legit from his film. If he was an inch or two taller, and 20 lbs heavier, he would probably be a 3-star. Same goes for if he was just from Florida.

Increased depth will help. After seeing UCLA's trainwreck season in '07 where they went through 5 QBs, you never know how many you'll need. He could definitely help out on the scout teams.

Well that's good. He will provide some good third string competition for Sheridan (and hopefully surpass him) if we don't pick up anyone else in the class.

At least the kid throws a better ball than Pryor, right? If we are going to subscribe to the lottery ticket approach to our QB's, then the more tickets the better, even if the odds on this particular ticket are especially long.

Based on his ranking, I expected his throwing to be either non-existent or bad, but it's actually surprisingly not bad. He has a quick delivery on short-to-mid-range passes. He also made a couple of nice throws on the run. His throwing looks better than Feagin's, from what I remember of his highlight tape.

One of the best D2 programs? They are about as dominant as any team ever in D2, certainly the top team right now. They are like USC of D2, they don't win it every year, but there's not a single year where they aren't either THE favorite or one of 2 or 3 top teams.

I've seen this kid play a ton of times. He is a leader, hard worker and one of the most athletic kids you'll see. I guarantee he will compete for playing time.

I don't see why people are bashing this kid already just because he's not a "4 star" recruit on rivals or scout. If he can come in, bulk up learn the offense and work on his throwing he has a shot to compete for a starting spot. So lets all take a breath and lay off this kid a little and see what hey can do.

I don't think people are being critical just skeptical. To put it into perspective, I saw Sheridan play in high school. I was not impressed, I thought he was an average at best high school QB. Furrha on the other hand is the best high school QB I've ever seen firsthand, He was much more dominant in the SEC than Threet was when he played there. Even if he gets beat out at QB I promise he will compete at either the slot or db. He is a great athlete, son of a coach and a real smart kid. At the very least, he wilkl be the best damn scout qb we will ever have.

I don't think that anybody is trying to knock the kid. It looks like he has some skills/athleticism, even if he has not received any Scout/Rivals love. Generally speaking, a walk-on has longer odds of contributing as a starter than a highly-recruited kid. Then again, this is not your prototypical Michigan team, and RR has a history of developing diamonds in the rough, so we will see what happens.

By virtue of being good enough to be on the roster of a Division 1, BCS conference football team, he is probably among the top 2 percent of Michigan high school QB's, so we shouldn't be shocked that his college film looks good. It also doesn't mean he'll play, ever.

how he stacks up to AJ Westendorp? Thats been the running joke on Rivals, because someone seemingly related to him or friends with him keeps posting threads asking why Westendorp isn't getting a Michigan offer. But now I honestly want to know how Furrha ranks compared to Westendorp.
