M 46 OSU 2! (softball)

Submitted by snowcrash on

Apologies if this was already written up, but I scrolled through older posts and didn't see anything since Saturday.

Anyway, the M softball team destroyed OSU again on Sunday in Columbus, mercy-ruling the Bucks 20-0. M pitcher Megan Betsa had little trouble, allowing just 4 baserunners and striking out 9. Just about every M hitter got in on the act. Sierra Romero, Kelly Christner, Sierra Lawrence, Kelsey Susalla, Aidan Falk, Amanda Vargas, and Taylor Swearingen all scored at least two runs. Lawrence, Falk, Vargas, and Swearingen all drove in at least 3, and Tera Blanco drove in 2. Vargas and Swearingen both homered twice, and Falk once.

The combined final scores for the 3-game series were M 46, OSU 2. That's M 46, OSU 2. M 46. OSU 2. Heh.

It's really a shame to think that we wipe the floor with OSU in a lot of sports, but football is the one thing that people really care about. We could sweep OSU in every other sport for the entire year, but if we don't beat them in football (arguably basketball as well), the perception is still that Michigan is inferior.

It's a shame, but it's the way of the world.

With all the problems that occurred in football, basketball, and hockey this year, good to see these girls kickin the crap out of people.  Will be fun to watch them in the CWS this year.

Michigan has hit at least one grand slam the last 3 years against OSU. They hit two in one day in one of those games.

Think about that for a moment.

Fielding Yost would be proud.

Also, Hutch is #3 all-time in the sport of Softball in head coaching wins. The record is 1457. She'll hit it, no doubt.

the first rpi rankings are out:

1. FLORIDA

2. LSU

3. MICHIGAN

4. AUBURN

5. ALABAMA

The rpi is a good predictor of ncaa tournament seed. LSU beat Florida 2/3 but overall has a weaker schedule.

I saw yesterday discussion on Michigans best player before Sierra Romero. I'd throw Jessica Merchant's name into that field... she was shortstop while I was in school and now an assistant at Minnesota coinciding with their recent burst of success. Samantha Findley will always be known for her hit versus UCLA in the world series. As far as pitchers there are a lot of really good ones, but Ritter was a beast.

Coach Hutchins, why did you run up the score to 20-0?

Hutchins:  Because we were limited by the mercy rule of running it up even further.

(obviously only my dream interview question and answer)

I wish that were the score in football but will take it in any sport, becase OSU and the entire state of OHten creates such a vacuum that it induces a massive change of pressure!
