Lubick decommits

Submitted by DingleberryFinn. on
Nate Lubick has decommited from Georgetown. http://michigan.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=963604 Should be interesting how this one plays out. Last summer he seemed really interested in UofM and was chatting it up with Morris but then, rather shockingly, commited to Georgetown. Does anyone think we have a legit shot at him? Will JB even recruit him now that we already have 2 commits for 2010?

I heard the chemistry wasn't great between Lubick and the other guys on the team. Maybe that was spin to cover the fact we didn't get him, but who knows. He an Smotrycz (sp?) would overlap too much I would think for us to get him. However, Beilein has said be for that is ideal team is 5 guys that are 6' 6" tall...so maybe he could do that with 6'9" guys?

I would take him in a heartbeat. Cronin is a 7 footer with hip problems, I'm hoping for the best. Gibson is a senior and has not shown much McLimans looks like a project. Morgan just had knee surgery. Sims is great but a senior Novak is awesome but only about 6'4" Ant Wright is an enigma

I think he has improved a ton since he first came to Michigan. He's not the best player ever, and he is also a little gumpy, but he has shown me that I can actually rely on him to make some plays in games. I think that Cronin will be a decent player as well. He had a surgery last year, so he will need some time to work it out, but his size can't hurt.

Well, we have a power forward in Evan S., so not sure why we'd pursue Lubick. We need a Manny-esqe player, like Trey Zeigler. I rather pick up Zeigler and then go after the deep Michigan class of 2011, where are top prospects galore in the state.

As people have said, with the commitment of Hardaway Jr, we have only one more open scholarship for the 2010 class. If we cannot get Zeigler or Prather with that last slot, we will most likely save that scholarship for the loaded 2011 class, especially since Smotrycz (cannot believe I spelled that correctly first try) is a 4 as well.

I don't know that we'd save it. There is no guarantee that anyone commits to UM in '11. If we can get the #47 player in the nation we should take him. The loaded '11 class won't have more than a couple players above #47 I wouldn't think. I mean maybe we wouldnt go after him but I would think if I were coach, which I know I'm not, I would gauge his interest and get him if I could.

But at the same time, you have to look at need. We still lack a true PG and Lubick certainly isn't that. He is a PF and we already have what seems to be the consensus "perfect Beilein 4" in Smotrycz. We didn't come into this years recruiting saying, "We need a lanky shooter who lacks great ball-handling skills" but we still took Hardaway. My point being, yes, there are no guarantees, but if we can get a true PG in 2011, say Kearney, or Brundidge then great. And if the time comes around when they're ready to make their decisions, and we don't have any scholarships, that one more scholarship could be the difference between taking a player we don't necessarily need in 2010, even if he is a very good player, and not. Also, people say he is a heavy Notre Dame lean for the record.

As much as I would wish that Morris is a true point guard, I'm just not ready to say it. I'll be pleasantly surprised if he is able to be the floor general that we need, but from what I've seen and heard he is too flashy and lacks the discipline needed to lead us past where we already got. In the Q&A on UMHoops.com somebody asked what Coach Beilein asked him to work on, and while he said there weren't any facets in particular, he said he was working on his jump shot. That isn't a true PG focal point. That is what a true PG would work on after he is already polished in the areas that are needed. In high school Morris was well documented for having plays where he would be on the Top 10 on any given night, however he isn't able to come in night in and night out and lead us to a win. He isn't going to have the leadership that CJ Lee had and he isn't going to have the steady passing that a freshman sensation PG like Ray McCallum has. Needless to say, if Darius Morris were 6' he wouldn't have nearly as much hype. Now don't get me wrong, I have high hopes for him as a player, but I'm not ready to call him a true PG.

Well for starters I have a feeling Belien has everyone work on their jumper, and of course he isn't going to have Lee's leadership he is a true freshman. Calling McCallum a "freshman sensation" is a trifle premature considering he is a high school senior. "In high school Morris was well documented for having plays where he would be on the Top 10 on any given night" Not sure what that means but is sounds pretty good. "Needless to say, if Darius Morris were 6' he wouldn't have nearly as much hype." I agree, pointless statement, unless he shrinks.

Manny has been doing well in camp and NBA scouts are noticing Manny. He reportedly has improved his midrange jumper so that's an nice thing to add to his arsenals. If he can follow up his sophomore season with a better junior year, he's as good as gone. His stock is on the rise mainly because of the improvement that he have showed as well as a good showing at camp.
