Lou Holtz @ Halftime of WVU-Cincy
I was watching the halftime show on tonight's West Virginia-Cincy game, and as usual Holtz and Mark May made a few predictions for tomorrow. Obviously Lou went with his 2 previous schools, South Carolina over Florida and ND over Pitt. I guess my question is how much longer does ESPN keep him. I don't know for sure, but I'd think a lot of fans must quit watching due to his extreme bias towards ND. I don't think it matters what players ND has or who they are playing, he will always pick them to win. I used to find it funny but it's just freakin annoying now. You don't see Herbstreit picking OSU every single time, and even if he does he provides great insight on why they should win. Lou's insight consists of "they will win b/c they're just a great team, they have a great coach, they give it all on every play, blah blah blah"

Awesome betting opportunity. Who gets canned first, Holtz or Weis?

Is this a trick question?

Yeah I saw that too. Completely ridiculous.
Is it completely out of the realm of possibility that some day, someone at ESPN will call out Holth on air and just say something to the effect of, "You are a complete homer"? Or would that just be considered an unacceptable breach of professionalism? Calling Holth a homer would seriously give them some credibility as far as journalistic integrity is concerned.
Anyhow, that whole thing makes me hope that much more that ND get spanked tomorrow. Would love to see Holth in that Pitt shirt.... Even if Pitt wins though, won't happen, he'll renege on it.

Holtz has just become comic relief for the network - playing the role of the crazy old guy.

I change the channel every time Holtz is on. In fact, I did just that yesterday.

Call me crazy, I actually love every Holtz segment on ESPN. I love that I have to spend 15 minutes first figuring out what he said, and then another 15 minutes figuring out what the hell it means. Then a half hour later, I finally get to laughing at it.
I think my favorite was when he said ND would beat USC because they believed they could win. After all, that's as good a reason as any, right?

Hahaha I forgot to mention that last point of your's - "they're going to win because they believe they can". That's probably his weakest point he's ever used when trying to justify an ND victory. What's almost worse is when he tries to explain what went wrong when they lost

Alright, you're crazy. I cannot fathom anyone who is in possession of their mental faculties enjoying Lou Holtz for any reason.

Holtz's act is really getting old. The ND bias is growing more irrational every week. I presume he is still close to people in the program and the university and hears a lot during the week - it must be raging. How can anyone defend ND's incompetent, bombastic excuse for a coach and their consistent underachievement? It is ridiculous.
Add this the fact that his speaking voice is difficult to listen to, to put it mildly.
I'm at the point where I just can't take him - in contrast to
Herbstreit, Mr. Ohio State, who I have to admit is as good as there is on TV right now.

What else would they expect? He's never pretended to be a journalist, and furthermore, it's not like he's influencing anyone, so no harm done.

ESPN should be ashamed of themselves for making fun of the elderly every week. Holtz and Corso are like watching Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy.

You all may not remember last year's gem when he was discussing coaching issues...
He said something along the line of "Hitler was a great leader."
If that didn't get him canned, I don't think his selection of ND winning a game is going to matter.

It reminded me of Ollivander saying Voldemort did "great things. Terrible, but great."

Maybe ESPN is trying to put themselves in position to snag ND from NBC.
November 14th, 2009 at 10:38 AM ^
You mean snag ND from Versus. I so hope that (ND getting shuffled off to Versus) happens.

I love every segment that involves Lou Holtz slobbing over ND. Each time we're one step closer to Mark May crushing Lou's skull on live TV. I thought the ND vs. Pitt segment would finally be the one tonight. It wasn't, and to think I made popcorn for nothing. Oh well, popcorn is good.

The last time I actually watched a Holtz segment was before the season when he predicted that Florida would play ND in the BCS Championship. I've changed the channel every time he has come on since then.

Holtz is actually a pretty good regarding his picks. I think that is the reason he stays around. He knows the game well and can give very good insight, he is just so rediculous regarding the Irish that it really completely cancels it out.

He'll come off the air once ND re-hires him. That or he runs for congress.

So you're saying there's a chance?

takes his teeth out and gums Mark May's face "Drag Me To Hell" style.
