Lou Holtz: Florida vs. ND NC game

Submitted by Nate-Dawg on
Look, I don't post around here much b/c I don't have the time. But I just couldn't let this go. On the 6PM Sportscenter, the talking heads had Lou Holtz on. He then proclaimed that he expected ND to play Florida in the 2009 BCS National Championship game. He said ND will be the favorite in every game but 1 (USC) and because of their schedule he expected them to be there. How ridiculous can it get? I mean I respect this guy, I really do even as a Michigan fan. But at what point does this guy lose any or all credibility he ever had? Has he not watched ND the past, oh I dunno....15 years? Did he not watch them lose to Syracuse, at home last year on senior day? This is beyond stupid. This is beyond homerism. (sp?) I miss Trev Alberts. And Keith Jackson. That is all.

He's a crooked son-of-a-bitch that cheated every damn place he went, and then covers it up with some "aw, sthucks" bullshit. And if you don't believe me, Google "Kimberly Dunbar". The shit this woman did under his watch at Notre Dame makes Ed Martin look like he was just handing out birthday cakes. Oh, and don't forget the 10 NCAA violations Holzth left behind at South Carolina, five of them majors.

I could totally see this happening. I could also totaly see the moon crashing into the Earth and we all die in a hellish fury. Guess which one is more likely? If you guessed ND, your wrong.

I can't stand Lou Holtz. I do kind of enjoy his prep talks for some strange reason, but he's obnoxious and has his foot firmly in his mouth. And he's a goddamn ND homer to boot. I'm looking forward to reading about Kimberly Dunbar.

I stopped reading at "I respect this guy." And that's not because he's a homer, or because I hate ND. In fact I don't hate ND, but I love learning and the English language, and therefore loathe that man and every failed attempt at communication he's ever made. Seriously, chief among the knuckle-draggers beshitting the screen every fall, he makes me fidget in my seat at the bar I've dragged my non-football-obsessed friends to. I try and try to explain my passion to them, and occasionally even win one over to the smart side of the game, and then this obviously paint huffing abortion survivor appears and ruins all my good work. Ask me how I really feel.

to have witnessed Mark May just knocking the shit out of this old man, right out of his chair right there on the set. That would have been better than Jim Everett vs. Jim Rome.

I really hated the "Dr. Lou" segments last year. I cannot even properly put into words my complete loathing every time I heard the theme song start (very creative by the way, "Doctor Lou, doctor Lou, that's doctor Lou!"). But there was one segment that wasn't as brain-bustingly horrible as the others. They had Mark May as just a shadow saying that his "coworker" is always going on about Notre Dame and how great they are when they haven't been relevant in years. He then listed some stats. The "mysterious person" then asked what he should do. I thought, finally, someone is calling Lou Holtz on his ridiculous homerism for his former team. The good doctor's answer... he was asleep. So that's about as close to Mark May knocking Lou Holtz out as I've seen. But hey, maybe we should get him to go back to ND and one of his own players can hit him and put him in crutches. I really hate Lou Holtz.

Even as perenially overrated as ND is, I can't see them getting into the NC game with one loss over a major conference team with one loss or an undefeated Utah or Boise State because of their joke of a schedule. Besides, I have UM and USC pencilled in as auto-losses for ND, so the point should be moot.

I only watch Holtz for pure entertainment. His lisp is funny, obviously, and he does seem to be having a lot of fun watching and commenting on college football. But I stopped taking anything he said, especially in regards to ND and Michigan, seriously when I was about 14.

Can you imagine if Bo was still alive and working on the ESPN studio show? He wouldn't be pulling any of this "Dr Bo" crap acting like the old man at the sports bar. He'd be talking serious football, and taking coaches to task for bad decisions and character flaws. And telling Notre Dame to go to hell. He doesn't have an image to hold up/repair like Lou, because he didn't have swaths of cheating hidden under his resume. We might actually learn something. And that's really what bothers me about the Holtz thing - ESPN seems to be basking in some kind of Lou-retirement glow, like they just like having famous Holtz around the studio, regardless of his contributions to the show which are really lackluster. I also hate it when studio commentators crack inside jokes to each other and laugh amongst themselves, like we weren't watching on the screen.

The crap that Lou Holtz spews out on ESPN almost makes me wish that he were replaced by the Fox BCS Championship announcers. His humor is rarely funny and his comments are generally baseless and moronic.

moments when Mark May says something to get him going and the old geezer goes off the deep end and the Mothership will be forced to pull him off the air. I wouldn't be shocked if he makes some off-handed comment about Erin Andrews and Tebow and pisses off everyone at ESPN. The old man needs to go away. He provides no insight at all, he's just there to give some stupid polarizing commentary that sends Mark May into an USC apologist tizzy and spark a good argument. He's a waste of time.
