LOL Crean: Indiana NOT selected by the NIT
Looks like the crowd was chanting the wrong thing.
"C-B-I! C-B-I!"
Every. Single. One.
At least Vitale has us over Duke.
The kissiest of all kisses of deaths. They are so screwed. I could not be happier.

I remember when nearly everybody picked Kansas a few years ago including me. That turned out well.
March 16th, 2014 at 11:35 PM ^
Was it the year Kansas won the NC? Or the year they took runner up?!
March 17th, 2014 at 12:01 AM ^
The year they lost to Northern Iowa as a 2 seed
Good thing they have to play the games and not decide them in a media slurpfest, huh?
He was the ONLY one to correctly pick Michigan into the Final Four last year. I'll take it!
What was funny about that to me was that if Michigan got that far in the bracket it would be playing so well that it would most likely be able to beat Louisville pretty handily. IMO weird logic from DV.

"...if Michigan got that far in the bracket it would be playing so well that it would most likely be able to beat Louisville pretty handily."
Huh?
I didn't see the analysis, but wonder if any of them mentioned that MSU's "phsyical" game will result in many whistles once in the dance. It's one of the main reasons that UofM has done well in the tourney.

It did seem like that Final reverted to B1G-type officiating, but we saw B1G teams have more difficulty than would have been expected (State, OSU, Wisc being prime examples).
Listen, Coach Beilein agrees that this is real. People who deny this are just stupid or reality-denying. Or both. Although this season was a fantastic departure from the Big Ten madness of the past. Best reffed season I can remember in the conference and it isn't even close.
Today was a weird reversion.
Also, revulsion.

Isn't it the same for football?
Ohio had the better regular season, but Sparty won the Rose Bowl and got all of the glory.
Wasn't it 2 years ago when a 5-loss Wisconsin was in the Rose Bowl? They didn't win...but if they did, it would be better than Nebraska who had the better regular season.
Your logic is flawed.
ESPN analysts are like cats with horrible ADD in a lazer-light show. Put something shiny in front of them and they'll just go crazy.

Who fucking cares? I came into this thread to laugh at Indiana's misfortunes, not bitch about MSU more.
March 16th, 2014 at 10:25 PM ^
Didn't take long for the obsessed to hijack the thread.
Wait, wut? MSU isn't Mississippi State? Hold on... Florida, yeah, that's the ticket. Florida will be the National Champions.
ESPN LOL!

Ms. Duke is very jealous right now.
Every single ESPN guy made a case for Virginia deserving the #1 seed and yet none of them picked UVA. I know I know (matchups, matchups, matchups)...but doesn't UVA play similar to Staee?
Well, the sad thing is the the CBI home page does not yet have a schedule up and the tournament begins on Tuesday, I believe. Tom Crean does not have much time to convince them that Indiana is the team that could very well upset the Santa Claras and Oregon States of the world. A midrange seed is all he requests, I am sure.
Crean declines a bid to the CBI. The season is over for Indiana.
March 17th, 2014 at 11:53 PM ^
And it's not really close.
March 16th, 2014 at 10:10 PM ^
If they declined, I feel bad for the team. The NIT is better than no post-season at all, isn't it?
Purdue said a few days ago that they wouldn't accept a bid if offered.
From the sounds of it, though, it doesn't seem like they would have been offered in the first place.
Wow. Indiana lost Oladipo and Zeller, we lost Burke and Hardaway (and McGary), but look at the difference between the two seasons this year. Wow! I love Coach B.
To be fair, Indiana also lost Hulls and Watford. Not superstars, but still valuable veterans.
I think the runner up of the smaller conference tournaments getting an auto-bid to the NIT changed everything up this year.

2 | 62 | Marquette | BE | 17-15 |
3 | 72 | Miami YTM | ACC | 17-16 |

9 | 84 | Texas Tech | B12 | 14-18 |
10 | 85 | Cleveland St | Horz | 21-11 |
.
To be fair, the NIT doesn't seem to like taking a 3rd team from a power conference with a 17-15 record.

It's because of all the midmajor conference tournament upsets meant a lot of autobids for their regular season conference winners.
how it breaks down every year but 13 of the 32 teams got automatic bids into the NIT this year.
March 16th, 2014 at 10:29 PM ^
Just saw this on the Illinois Scout board (Yes I hangout over there). Why the heck would you decline an invitation to ANY postseason tournament? Indiana could use the extra games and practice. Weird move.
March 16th, 2014 at 10:49 PM ^
Beilein declined a bid to the upstart CBI in 2010.
Hindsight being 20/20, Michigan had a great year in 2010-11 considering what they lost and were picked to finish. And of course, Stu made that shot on 1/27/2011 and we haven't looked back.

to attract recruits.
It's a tournament whose original intention was to reward smaller schools that were successful at their own level.
"The College Basketball Invitational (CBI) provides a meaningful opportunity for teams that deserve a postseason experience."
