Lions v. Bears

The lions got robbed. I still think that rule is the dumbest thing i have ever heard.

His Dudeness

The series the refs took from the Kings made me angry. The series they took from the Mavs and gave to the Miami Wades made me suspicious. The series they took from the Pistons and gave to the LeBrons forced me to stop watching the NBA. That entire league is a joke. The call today made me suspicious.

This is Michigan

Calvin Johnson is on it.

Terrible rule.

The announcers brought up a great point about hitting the pylon. The ball often comes out. How many times does this happen with a catch close to the goal line as the reciever attempts to stretch the ball across the plane.

i know i already posted my venting over this bs but the guys on the NFL network made a good point.  when your at the 1 yard line and a player barely touches that imaginary goal line that goes up to heaven and then the ball gets knocked out of his hands the play is considered a touchdown.  i guess when you catch a ball in the endzone you need to sit down and build yourself a damn teepee and sit there for 2 days before they call it a touchdown..hate the nfl refs

I don't see how it was a "dumb rule"

He clearly caught the pass and fell back and remained inbounds

YET IT'S "INCOMPLETE"

Fuck that

We all saw it, we all saw him catch it and fall down, I don't give a damn what anyone says about some obscure rule, it was a TOUCHDOWN

For anyone to say anything different because of a vagary or technicality is ridiculous...it was a TOUCHDOWN no doubt about it! Players score touchdowns and drop the football all the time! And this was the only time that they call it incomplete.

Charles woodson just picked off Eagles btw

Today, I figured opening game why not.  That last play will keep me away for years.  Caught the ball, 2 feet in bounds ... twice then disallowed.  Must have been Jim Joyces brother.

do not want to try to understand.  It occurs all the time - a receiver making a catch in the air must maintain control as his body hits the ground.  Not when a knee hits the ground, or elbow or hand.  Instead of Megatron pulling the ball into his body, he extended it out and lost control as he hit the ground.

Seems like "delusional" people like you don't want to try and understand that Calvin made the catch, feet, ass, elbow on the ground in the endzone, rolled over, made a second move, and the ball popped out during his celebration.  If you watch football and know football that is a catch.

He didn't even lose control of the ball.  He set it down as he was standing up to celebrate.  There is no doubt that he caught the ball and had control of it through his landing in the endzone.  I guess you could argue about whether he left it on the ground on purpose or accidentally, but in either case this happened as he was standing back up, not "as he hit the ground".

Its pretty bad to rob a team like that when it clearly was a catch, especiall a team that needs any win it can get after the last two seasons of a combined 2-30 record.

Its all Jeff Backus' fault. If he could block anyone Stafford wouldn't have gotten hurt and we probably crush the Bears. I knew as soon as Stafford went down we were in trouble. Backus has been terrible for about the last 5 years, I love him bc he is a Michigan man but the dude cannot play left tackle anymore. His missed block on Peppers just got our franchise QB injured. They never said how bad it was, I hope its not serious or our season is pretty much done after the first game.

If I was authorized to pos bang you, the number above would be yours plus infinity. Backus should be waived immediately for looking worse on several plays than most high school tackles. I understand he was up against Peppers and NFL speed guys on the edge, but he whiffed a bunch.

does anyone have a link to the rule - not an interpretation but the exact wording.  i'm curious.  i always thought this rule related to a simulataneous dive/catch maintaining control scenario.  good lord, the guy backpedalled 3 or 4 steps before hitting the ground on his butt. then turning, then dropped the ball as he was trying to get up.  absurd!

that's exactly what I thought.  OMG once he took TWO FUCKING STEPS followed by a knee, the catch was good and the play was 100% over.

BTW, who the fuck overruled the official in the end zone who originally called it a TD???

Absurd fuck job by the NFL.

watching the WWE errrr  the NFL years ago.  It's just another boxed canned, flaked and formed meat product for easy consumption by the masses.  The No Fun League as a I recall.

The NFL is all about the highest bidder and the lowest common denomenator.  THat product no longer looks like football.  You cannot touch the QB the rules are decidedly against the Defensive side of the ball. and after 70+ years they still have not figured how to end an overtime game. EFF the NFL

Mayhew is the one to blame. Last year instead of drafting Michael Oher, he takes a TE. So instead of drafting a Franchise Tackle, to protect your Franchise QB... he takes a Tight End with the 20th pick in the draft. We were told that Pettigrew is an elite player. So far the guy the Lions traded to Denver, Dan Gronkowski... the 255th player taken in the 2009 draft, has been a better football player.

If Jason Fox doesn't pan out, they will have to spend another 1st round pick on an offensive player to protect Stafford. All because, they wasted the 20th pick last year... and so it goes.

That they NEVER should have drafted a TE with that pick, especially when there was still some very good olineman on the board. That said, there is no denying that Backus has been terrible the last couple years. I'm sure we can agree that they better use this years first round pick on a stud left tackle or Stafford will get injured again.

Has always been a Right Tackle. Except for a few games last  year, this is the first time he has played Left exclusively. I would rather have Oher, a 2nd year player learning how to play Left Tackle(who finished 2nd for Offensive Rookie of the Year) then Pettigrew. He had a great game today, he really bailed out the Lions, 1 catch for 6 yards and a drop.

I guess we just disagree. I hope for the Lions sake, Pettigrew turns into the 2nd coming of Tony Gonzalez.
