Let’s have a friendly debate about “insiders”

Submitted by jbrandimore on October 20th, 2018 at 1:16 PM

I am not interested in trying to single anyone out on this, but I do feel that observational evidence here would point to the conclusion that either there aren’t any “insiders,” or if there are, they generally don’t post here.

Whether it is depth charts, injures or transfer or suspension rumors, I think any objective person would have to give the edge to counterstrike guy.

I do want to exclude recruiting posts from guys like Magnus in this. Those posts do tend to end up fairly accurately.

Thoughts?

Maybe they were right at first about Gary being out long term, but Harbaugh didn't like them spilling the beans on the web so they changed their tune the next day and lied about him practicing.

Or maybe they are just full of it and don't have any inside access right now.

Sometimes I think there are people that get the information a nano-second before everyone else. We'll all find out about it if we just had some patience

Some of the "insiders" work for 247 or Scout. They come to free areas and drop some items. Then they go back to the paysites and say they can't give away any free information anymore. It's just a gimmick to sell memberships to pay sites.

Again, any of us can get the information if we just wait for absolutely free...

I think a lot of you give too much value in the first place and then it leads to shitty threads (like this one) and unneccesary blowback like what is happening the last few days. Any insider that posts is only getting second or third hand info. No one outside of coaches and staffers truly know what's going to happen with players and availability. So a lot of you treat the info like it's impeachable when it hits and then act like the person was always wrong when it misses. The logical thing to do is realize that second and third hand info will have a high rate of variables and will sometimes hit and sometimes miss. Just relax and quit the sanctimonious nonsense.

There was a guy getting roasted on here last night for saying Gary was not making the trip and Black would see limited snaps. He seems to have known

I don't know which insider you're referring to. I was getting multi-contradictory info on Gary this week and wondered if maybe the program was putting out false information to figure out who their leaks are. When we're confident about something we'll post it.

I think it would be hilarious if Harbaugh was putting out disinformation to flush out the rat like he's Frank Costello in The Departed.  I think it's more likely that someone heard Gary was practicing and got out their Jump to Conclusions mat a little early to try and impress people on the internet.

This is a dumb thread.

Insider =/= part of the program. It's a guy that occasionally gets to see practice, or knows a guy who knows a guy. The information they post shouldn't be taken as gospel, but it's also the best you get since people in the program who do know for sure aren't talking. Getting butthurt the info turns out to be wrong or conflicts with other insiders is asinine.

If you want to have real insider information you have to pay monthly subscriptions. The stuff on here just is not reliable. You can't expect something for nothing.

You may come across a commenter in the comment threads who actually does know some insider stuff. But to find it you have to glean through a whole bunch of worthless comments. And usually, real insider stuff in comment threads gets endless crap from the regular commenters here. Why? Because most people on here don't know what they're doing. They can't tell real insider information when they see it. And they can't tell what a real troll is.

This blog really isn't worth much most of the time. (But you're not supposed to let anyone know that. You're just supposed to go on like this is some kind of fount of insider news. Like, Brandon Peters was in a real neck-and-neck race with Shea Patterson. That kind of insider stuff.)

Here’s the thing. We’re all Michigan fans. We all love this team. So why do people always give each other shit on this topic? I personally love every bit of information that’s given on this board. Be it 100% wrong or 100% right. Injuries are fluid. Info also fluid. One day they could be looking good and the next is a setback. And the insider doesn’t always get the latest info. So be it.

i personally never give 100% credence to anything on the blog because it’s not official from UM. If things change, so be it. I just want Michigan to win, regardless who is playing or not.

I assume this was about UMBig11 whose got a lot of shit. He just said on another thread he will not offer any other info because people are being asses. Personally I agree with that because who wants to constantly be chided for a take not occurring.

Too bad Gary didn’t play. I don’t give a shit that 11 said he thought he would. Things change. 11 thanks for all the info. It’s something I always enjoyed reading. And I hope it continues. You have one person here that over the takes, no matter what.

If Umbig11 was right he wouldn't be so sensitive about posting his 'insider' stuff. But because he is so wrong he is vulnerable to what he deserves. Umbig11 should not be considered an 'insider'. He should be looked at as just another commenter, giving his 'take'. But his takes are really bad sometimes---like telling the board Brandon Peters really was in a real race with Shea Patterson. Not only was Peters never in a real neck and neck race with Patterson, he was not even is a real race with McCaffrey. It's clear to all now that McCaffrey is better than Peters. It's easy to see just by watching him. Why couldn't umbig11 see it??

But really, anyone could have known McCaffrey was better than Peters by just listening to how Don Brown and Jim Harbaugh talked about Dylan McCaffrey. Umbig11's loss of respect on this blog was by his own doing. He can read the handwriting on the wall. That is why he is going away. Don't blame it on the people who see how wrong he is.

Umbig11 is like so many others on this blog---he doesn't really know what he's doing.

"Insiders" posting shit here is a bad look for the program.  If Harbaugh wants the info to get out, he will get it out.  If players want their injury status to be known, they will let people know.  Relax and let the info come to you.  The "leaked" shit is embarrassing and cringe.
