to have Snoop Dogg, or Lion, or whatever his name is now, as a huge USC fan if he wants to go into music productionn (this is not a knock on Snoop Dogg by the way, he's a legend).

Good for McQuay. Hope he is successful against ND for years to come and is later successful in the NFL or the music biz, or both. The only time I hope he fails is if he happens to play against Michigan.

I really do not understand how people can hate an 18 year old kid for making a decision about his future. I would have walked to Ann Arbor to go to college, but my parents luckily drove me, and I would love if my kids went there and will try to convince them of the beauty that is the University of Michigan. However, I will also let them make their own decisions about what college to attend.

Its by LA and in the music and entertainment capital of the world in California. The girls there are gorgeous, sun, beaches, elite players from great high schools, celebrities the list goes on. I was honestly expecting him to pick USC. I never saw him going to Michigan. He's got tools to help him down the road in Cali vs Mich. This game is only a public preview its not an actuall future predictor for the talent of these guys. Practice with the schools is when they prove their worth. They still have a long way to go. Be positive people.

Per Garry Hamilton from 247..."McQuay actually picked USC over Michigan per a family member".  Not that a silver medal matters, just thought it was interesting

USC is the place to be if you want to play football and boogie down with those in the music industry.

He'll make some serious connections. Ones he would never have made at Michigan or Vandy or FSU.

the recent pickups by Ohio and ND, combined with this are making me sad, but on the flip side, this is just a numbers game at a certain point, and by signing day I'm sure we will have picked up more high level recruits based on the number still considering us, so I'm not taking it overly hard.

Like you said, consider that we've already picked up a lot of guys, and quality guys at that. Remember that day last February where we had I believe 6 commits in one day? That never happens. Notre Dame and OSU will get their guys, we'll get our guys, and MSU will only dream about getting its guys.

Given that he wants to pursue music, this is a smart move. Think about how many Real Sports  episodes and 30 for 30's are about guys whose sports careers went south and they had no back-up plan. As much as I would have loved to have a great safety, I wish him luck.

A lot of Gators fans headed for the exits after the announcement.  This was a curious decision.  I have to believe that one of the stars who hangs around USC promised to "hook him up in the music business."  This raises a question:

Out of all the players who have gone to USC after being told that someone will get them into "the biz," how many have actually gigged or released any product?

recruits to Kiffin and USC. LM3 and Ty were core targets, and Su'a and Khaliel were secondary targets. I don't think we won a single recruit vs USC. They go 7-6, schollie reductions, coach on hot seat, DC gone, etc and we still miss. Shake fist at perfect weather, song girls and LA glitz. Argggghhh ....

First off Fuck USC.....now that I have that off my chest. I think some in these parts are a bit too sensitive about criticizing recruits and players. Blatant ad hominum bs is always frowned on but saying that a kid made a stupid or irresponsible decision is no biggie. If 18 is old enough to die In war or get executed under state law than 18 is old enough to be criticized for going to play for a dip shit pre-pubescent acting coach.

Criticizing the decision is fine (i.e. USC's situation, coach, what would appeal to him about playing there, etc.), but too often people on this site and elsewhere get so caught up in it that they resort to namecalling, putdowns, or wild speculations (e.g. "Michigan is a much better fit for him, School X must be paying him.  School X is a bunch of cheaters).

In the end, you may disagree with the presumed reasons that a recruit picked a school, but only the kid and his family know the real reasons and made the decision they felt was best for them.  Even if you don't think it was the best for them, you have to respect the decision.

And you guys are worried about competing with ND?  I think you lose more to other schools than to ND.

PS: Called it in the other McQuay thread, labelled trolling.

Indeed.  Best of luck to him, his football career, and his eventual career as a starving musician.  With hard work, perhaps his dreams will come true.

Until then, I will revel in my earned status as a Michigan Man, those around me, and those that choose to dedicate themselves unto.

There is a whole scene out here.. lots of them want to party with star athletes.  If things break right for him, his football will easily put him in contact with many people in the industry.  Its a good move for him if that is what he really wants to do.
