Leach May Be out at TTech -- Recruit possibilities?

Submitted by ChalmersE on
Apparently Leach and Texas Tech are close to coming to a parting of the ways. Often recruits are granted their releases when such a change happens. If so, are there any potential Tech recruits that Michigan might be able to get?

I doubt Pearlie would come running. But Leach leaving doesn't make any sense. I mean, he just led the team to their best season ever and the national media fawns over him. Link?

I heard some talk on sports radio about him either being forced to sign some contract with some "stipulations" that he does not agree with. Word around the campfire is that he is not going to sign it. The AD was saying that he had until two days ago actually. The radio personality didn't know if the deadline was a hard one or one to see who would flinch first. Apparently, it wasn't Leach. Because he still has a job.

That would be ironic....as Leach allegedly lured Pearlie by telling him Rich Rod would be gone after this season..........don't ya think?

...Leach wants out at TT and this is his way without having to pay up any money, if I understand it correctly. Otherwise, why is he being so obstinate when it appears TT has negotiated in his favor for the most part.

They had a contract agreement but TT added in some weird clauses like: -He gets fired if he interviews anywhere -Any speaking engagement money he gets goes to the school -A huge fucking buyout -Some other random shit that no other B12 coaches deal with

Leach is a former attorney. He doesn't put up with bullshit like this contract jargon put in just to mess with him. He won't sign that thing just on principle. TT should have known better than to try to mess around with him in the contract. From what I have seen of Leach I really like him, smart, funny and a hell of a coach. TT would be crazy not to kiss up and play nice after they royaly messed up.

Leach and Texas Tech's administration have been going at it for a while now. It does appear Leach may be on his way out. TT is going to look really bad if he does leave, that guy did a great job for their program. Even West Virginia's administration must be laughing at them.

In case you haven't been following sports lately, I remind you that the guys who run these programs are often far, far from rocket scientists or brain surgeons. Perhaps their AD is going on a yacht trip.

the part about "often recruits are released from their LOI"? I know it has happened in basketball (Amaker), but I don't know that I can remember anyone other than Mike Price getting fired between February and August. and even then that was in May, so letting people out of LOIs wouldn't have done anyone any good.

Why don't you think it would do them any good? If you went to a school to play for a particular coach, and that coach is no longer there, it may be in your best interest to play somewhere else. One coach's plan for you may be different than the next's.

I would assume that after April 1 the rules probably change. So letting someone out of an LOI would be pointless if they couldn't sign a new one with their new school. They'd probably have to sit out a year anyways at that point if they wanted to get in somewhere on scholarship. If TT is going to fire Leach and release their players, they'd better act quick before they screw the players.

be that simple. sure it would work out for us with Pearlie but now you'd have to deal with whether that school filled your position after you committed to TT, whether they have room for you in the class and if not finding someone that has room that you can schedule a visit with, while dealing with all the dead periods and spring break stuff. I'm not saying its impossible, but 6 weeks can disappear in a hurry when you're juggling all of that with Texas Tech finding a replacement coach and that coach trying to talk all of the current signees into sticking around.

This is an EXTENSION they're offering him, and they gave him a 2-day deadline to sign it. NOT "sign it or the offer expires", but "sign it or we fire you". Can you imagine the legal case for firing someone for not signing a contract extension? It could take FOREVER if he fights it.
