I'm not so sure that's him. To have that few of friends for a top notch high school recruit, and that few friends for any high school kid. Again, I'm not a friend, so I can't see his pictures, but I'm not sure I necessarily buy it. Just a guess, but why would he commit somewhere after trimming his list to 10 whole schools a day before. Just wondering?

Let me be the first to start the typical MSU de-commitment rumors. Thomas went on a recent visit to Alabama and is going to commit there according to inside sources.

Sorry if it was in bad taste. If you guys remember Gholston had a ton of such rumors spread about him.

Anyways, we never really had a shot with him it was pretty clear where he was headed. It is unfortunate to lose a top in-state guy at a position of need, but we have other targets and I'm glad our staff won't waste any more time with him.

Oh well, but I guess we should have been paying attention to the other brian all along.

The beauty of recruiting is that pipe dreams live until they die, and this one is officially dead.

As TOB said above, I'm pretty glad this is over with.

Edit: You would think that once the OP posted the Rivals confirmation, he would take away the facebook link.

Pfff, I'm totally down with this post, as now it puts the question to rest. I just hate a post each time a recruit gives a new top 10 or mentions a visit or god knows what else. The same exact shit gets rehashed and people vent the same misguided bullshit.

With the events of signing day 2009, I am surprised that people believe that he will stay with MSU. We have all seen guys flip-flop and waver with their commits. Look at Ash, Dorsey and others who fans thought they had in the bag until RR brought out the wizard hat and snake oil.
Remember, these recruits were taken by a team with a LOSING record. How much easier do you think it will be for RR and company to take recruits when they are winning??? Everyone loves a winner. I will continue to follow with interest, but I won't worry about things until January or February of 2011.

Who's worried?

For the record, there's more than a 50% chance that any player who commits to a school will remain committed. I'd say it's probably about 80%, actually. Maybe even more.

Also, Lawrence Thomas isn't coming to Michigan.

So...uhhh...that's why.

The Other Brian

This goes beyond the product on the football field for Thomas, this was a personal decision. Chris Norman is basically his big brother, and he's best friends with Dixon and Hicks as well. No other school can offer the comfort level that MSU has for him, and he committed to them today because he was worn down and tired of all the craziness of the recruiting process.

Good luck to all the other schools that try to get him on campus, because it's not going to happen. He's a Spartan, and just like Gholston, despite endless rumors, I highly, highly doubt he ever visits another school.

I think he will stick. This looks like it was a long time coming...he seems like a lock for Sparty from the beginning. Forget us...without visiting every other big name, it is a little stunning.

Good luck to him.

Didn't want him anyway. $5 says kid can't stay out of trouble, MSU will be the perfect place from him to get out of jail and hit the pads. Congrats, DUMBtonio, another future felon!

His Dad went to Michigan State. (I'm not usre if he's a grad)
He has 3 teammates that play for the spartans.
He's a Detroit Renaissance kid.

This is a shocking development.

Your posts were exactly the same and 3 minutes apart.
You edited the first one because I commented on the second to hide this fact once it was pointed out. No big deal, it was just an observation followed by a moment of "wtf."

It's called trying to post on a Blackberry (while at happy hour no less). You push post, it doesn't respond you try again shortly. I edited a post about 10 mins after when I realized it was a double post (the first one no less, because I clicked on it first and didn't feel like going back to chose which one to edit) so as not to anooy people.

Sorry, but it happens on a mobile phone. No reason for me to double post intentionally.

Cheers. :)

No worries. My girlfriend is a State grad and got a BBM from our good MSU friend that said "LT!" (Annoying to write on a BB btw) so I came here among other places.

Have a good night. Boo on LT.

As a Detroiter, it bothers me to see Renaissance kids going to a lesser school like State. I realize that they have coaching connections to MSU and whatnot, but Renaissance is known as the best PSL school academically (some may argue Cass, but anyway). The best should send to the best.

Then again, if these kids weren't projected stars, maybe I wouldn't mind so much. I'm just not excited to hear about MSU "dominating" UofM in in-state recruiting for another year.

Yeah!!! State is a lesser school. Their students, alumni, and supporters are lesser human beings than us, WE are superior, WE are the LEADER AND THE BEST. WE are the VICTORS and sparty will always BOW DOWN to BIG BROTHER.
When they beat us, it doesn't count because these are down years for Michigan's true university.

dahblue

March 6th, 2010 at 12:20 AM ^

Yes. State is a lesser school. The academics are inferior. The athletics are inferior. UofM has had two down years in football. I don't recall the last time MSU had a good year. The endowment is inferior. The graduate programs (save veterinary medicine and agriculture) are inferior. The campus is inferior. The history is inferior. The alumni base is inferior. That being said, State does have a better basketball team. Hold tight to that...there is nothing else superior about State.

Michigan State is one of 30 Public Ivy's in the U.S. and is regarded by several academic rankings to be one of the top 100 universities in the world. Lawrence Thomas and Will Gholston seem to think MSU is a better place to be than UofM. I value their opinions much more than that of a (likely) socially inadequate tool spewing hatred on the internet. What drives some of you guys to be so quick to eject such spiteful elitism whenever MSU is brought up?

dahblue

March 6th, 2010 at 1:46 AM ^

You should share what you're smoking.
MSU...Public Ivy? Right. I believe US News puts it at #8/9 in the Big Ten alone.

Some kids want to play ball at State...sweet. Good for them.
That doesn't make it a Public Ivy, but hopefully they have a great time at MSU. Enjoy the school as much as you like, but leave the delusion at home. It's a mediocre school. That's just what it is. There might even be some extremely smart people there...still doesn't mean it's a good school.

This "socially inadequate tool" is fairly socially refined with an extremely attractive wife, nice dog, solid career, public accolades, etc. I think I'm doing just fine; and my UofM degree never hurts. I'm certainly not trolling a Spartan message board at 1am. What drives these Spartan trolls into bouts of inferior rage whenever reality is brought up?

p.s. the Earth is round, gravity keeps you from floating into space and the Easter Bunny is a fictional character.

You should compile your own list to combat Greene's from 2001. You could have a foreword where you describe your internet persona who has a smokin' hot wife, a nice golden retriever, and a degree that never hurts (I thought you already had a solid career, do you show your degree at Starbucks for free coffee or something?) Then on the back cover we can list all your "public accolades"- nobody will look at those other lists ever again!
