Last Streak Standing - IU
In the mid-90's UM saw its lengthy win streaks against Wisconsin, N'Western and Purdue end (this is significant for those of us that were fans from 1993-1995); We lost the Brown Jug in '06 for the first time in 20 years. Then in '09 the bowl streak, the modest streak verse State, and the undefeated record against the MAC ended.
BUT.... UM has not lost to Indiana since 1987. 22 years.
This year should be no different. IU should battle Purdue for last place, and UM gets them at home. There has been a lot of talk on the board the last couple days about 2009 record and "guaranteed" wins as EMU, IU, Del. St., and Purdue are the consensus.
But no one is talking about this trap game... week after a very weak EMU team, and before the first road game for a revenge against Sparty. Oh the pain if they lose this one.
UM won't lose that game unless the team has been decimated by injuries.
Our backups could still beat their starters.
are correct sir.
End of thread.
I refuse to take any opponent lightly.
appy state (1-AA)
toledo(MAC)
bowls(33)
streaks are nothing to be trifled with or taken for granted.
I refuse to think how I regard an opponent has any bearing on how a game will turn out.
During the year of infinite pain.
I'd call '08 the year of infinite pain instead
I'm going with Fuck Me 2008.
In that case I hereby request this season be named:
Rich Rod 2: The Reckoning
no. Rich Rod 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Minnesota opens a new football stadium this year. Michigan never lost to them in the Metrodome. I believe there were 13 such meetings. In fact, the last time we lost to them on their home turf was 1977.
Ok, maybe I'm stretching here. But it's something, right?
1977 is correct. Michigan was #1 going into that game.
if we lose to IU I think its time for a mass seppuku convention. I think App State would have been favored in every hypothetical matchup with IU in the past 22 years.
Your forgetting a very importnat streak...130 years of having the best uni's in sports.
lets just hope the tradition that began in 1879 doesn't get violated by maize/black jerseys or a makeover to the helmet
Our official attendance has been over 100,000 for every game since the middle of 1975. Hopefully that will continue. (This year, with the combination of coming off 3-9 and the horrible economy, is probably the biggest challenge for the ticket department since the streak started.)
I think it will. It's not like the tickets are really expensive. Plus, I think we all know there have been games since 1975 where fewer than 100,000 people showed up.... Northwestern last year was a good example.
Before Don Canham, the only guaranteed sellout was either the OSU or MSU game, whichever was at home that year. It would be surreal to go to a UM game whose attendance was "only" 60-70,000 in this era.
that UM has not been shut out in some 280+ games, I believe. Don't quote me on the total number, but it is a significant amount. The Minor TD against tosu last November preserved that streak.
I know the last time we were it was against Iowa.
I want to say 1984-1985ish?
We lost 26-0. That was when we were down to our third-string QB because of injuries.
I'm going to that game, so we best win.
Only two months until that streak ends!
Go Big Red! Ben Chappel will own the Big House, I am sure.
(btw, for those who dont recall. I went to IU, class of '94)
I'm not going to downvote you for that, but I AM going to question your sanity if you really think IU will "own" Michigan.
Cmon, did someone really vote down Jamiemac's post? IU fans are harmless, contrary to MSU and OSU fans.
Just a bit.
As a graduate of The Miami (Not That Miami) University, though, I can understand. I too root for my alma mater when they play Michigan.
Well, sort of. I actually root for them to lose decisively, but not that badly (24-7 kind of thing).
Yes, I was being very much a smartass.
I know many on here know where I went to school, but many others probably do not.
I find myself fist pumping every single made basket by both teams when they play on the hardwood. Allegiances very torn.
Football has not been competitive really since my days in school. I would be very torn if UM had a lead late in the game and IU was driving for a go-ahead score. I would have mixed feelings about that.
IU wont "own" Michigan, but since we are all petrified about our pass D, why not give a little love, to the IU QB!
I've always been amazed you didn't form a Cam Cameron mafia during the coaching search...
"You don't understand! An 18-37 record at Indiana is average! He maintained the program! Mallory is our best coach ever!"
This reminds me of the last time we played IU at home. In '05 I was a freshman with seats at the top of the bowl, drunk as a skunk, and leaning over the back of the bowl yelling "Who's your daddy?" (see: who's your ~ Hoosier) to all the IU fans slinking out early.
Ahh, those were the days...
for my University of Phoenix to put together a football team. Fear the Phoenix!
They already have the stadium.
We also haven't lost to Illinois on the road since 1983 (10 games, I believe). We haven't lost to Purdue at home since Bob Griese was the QB. There's a couple more streaks.
be an easy win. Like many, I don't take any for granted anymore because it leaves me in a massive depression for days when they end up losing those ones (well, any loss does that actually). This should be as close to a gimme as it gets. When you factor in their lack of talent at every position and couple that with the fact that they have, perhaps (and there is a good chance), the worst coach in Div 1A football and it looks good for UM that day. Lets hope all goes as it should!
