Well... they could really use a proven middle linebacker. Get Foote, go o-line, d-line with their 2 first-rounders. Maybe Schwartz can get it done. After this year's fitting end to the Curse of Bobby Layne, they can only go up.

Larry Foote calling it quits from the top team to play in his home state just before he retires? That home state is Michigan? He wants to do inner city work for kids? This guy is my hero.

He's already won a super bowl (working on another) and he's made a good chunk of coin. If he can't take (or change) the Lions' losing ways, he'll simply retire. Tough to chastise a guy who's making a personal investment in a increasingly forgotten city.

The real question is whether or not he fits into the Schwartz/Cunningham 4-3 defensive scheme. Don't forget that Foote has played in a 3-4 scheme for all seven of his years in the NFL.

The Lions will waste a 2nd round pick on a Spartan fan favorite with injury issues to fill the stadium with Little Brothers. But how much you wanna bet they manage to not get Foote in 2010. 2009 is gonna be a rebuilding year. 2010 is gonna be a step forward year. For that, what could possibly be better than bringing in a vet with a Superbowl ring who's proven he can play at a high level, and wants to be here, wants to play for Detroit specifically so he can put his contract money back into the city. How wonderful would it be to know you have the inside track for a free agent linebacker after next year, which is a throwaway year anyway? How could you possibly screw this up? By being the Lions, of course. And mark my words, they WILL find a way to minimize value here, because they always do.
