Lacrosse Team One Open Thread v. Ohio State.

Big things ahead.  We're like the people that got to watch the first Michigan football team . . . "What is this odd yet interesting sport, 'ole chap?"

To be blunt, the reason we're huge underdogs is because we suck.

To be more tactful and truthful, it's our first season, and you know how "expansion teams" are.  OSU is not great, not bad, but we're huge underdogs against 90% of teams.  If you only paid attention to basketball until the Elite 8 or even Sweet 16, you'd miss out on a lot of good teams; it's no different in lacrosse, of course.

Both Ohio and us are Div. 1. The difference is that Ohio has had a  Div. 1 program for longer than we have. Before this season, the lacrosse team for Michigan was simply a club team that used the block M and the name of Michigan. Now it's officially a sport that they can recruit in and gain more experienced players. I believe most if not all of the Michigan players are carried over from the club team.

I couldn't believe when they came out to warm up...I counted at least 36 Buckeyes before them moving around got it mixed up. I had no idea there were so many. No wonder the football ticket prices went up....that's a lot of scholly money. Brady kinds screwed them by cutting practice a half hour early. I think a lot of people weren't going to wait an hour in the cold for the game to begin. A half hour with warm ups to entertain didn't seem so bad...

I live about a 3 minute walk from the stadium so I went home after fb, had lunch, and went back for lax. I've watched enough in TV to know the gist, but It was my first live game. I will definitely be checking out more games as the program grows. You could tell there was quite a bit of turnover in the fans (lots of lax fans showing up as I left after fb) but a good crowd and a hard-fought game.

Lemme add some clarification to that.  "Attackmen" is a position, so really the crease is off limits to all opposing players.  Plus it'll confuse people if you say "the defense can't cross the midfield line" because they do all the time; the rule is no more than six non-goalies on either side of the line at any time.

as I'm sure MaizeAndBlueWahoo knows, the rule is you have to have at least three players on your offensive half and and at least four players on your defensive half. Generally this is the three attackmen on the offensive half and the three defenders plus the goalie on the defensive half.

The exceptions are if you don't gain an advantage by having too few players on the field. In other words, if you only have 9 players on the field then no one cares that you only have two attackmen on the offensive half. This happens whenever you do a sub on the fly for a fleeting moment. Also, if you happen to have, I think, three guys or more serving penalties then I think the rules get a little funky, but that's pretty rare.

Great look to the goal, but a better save by Buckeye keeper.

So far, so good -- I'm hopeful that we can pull this out.  Break Logan Schuss' legs, please (or just enough so they will heal by OSU's next game).

Cool Story Bro Moment:

I played against Greg Bice (BTN Announcer) when he was at Ohio State as a freshman.  I played for Mercyhurst a DII program from PA in a scrimmage.  I was a long pole and had a catastrophic head to head collision on a faceoff.  That hit put me and the OSU player in the cat scan machine at Wexner Medical Center.  I don't even remember waking up that morning but I remember really being jacked up during warm-ups and salivating at the thought of laying someone out.

Very impressive effort by team one today.  No matter what happens they should hold their heads high.  The talent and size difference out there is very noticable, yet they keep fighting admirably.
