Submitted by BiSB on

Per Hoke's presser today, Mike Cox, Terrance Robinson, and Rocko Khoury are graduating this spring and are not returning for next season.

Best of luck to these Michigan Men.

This puts us at 24 for the 2013 class correct?  Looks like the class could be even bigger than expected since Khoury was unexpected and we've got a long time til signing day.

Congrats to them all for graduating.  It's understandable that someone not expecting to play much would want to leave school upon getting a degree rather than to stick around to go through practices and everything.  Having said that, losing all of these guys is unfortunate and losing Khoury is terrifying.

We have more options at guard than center.  If Miller wins the center job and keeps Barnum at guard, then we literally have ZERO backups at center except Elliott Mealer, who used to snap once in a while in practice when Rodriguez was here.  With Khoury's departure, it's a near certainty that Barnum wins the center job.

Now it's just a battle between Mealer/Bryant/freshmen to start at left guard.

Magnus you are correct if you assume walkons play no role on the team.  Given Jordan Kovacs, I wouldn't make that assumption myself.

"Now it's just a battle between Mealer/Bryant/freshmen to start at left guard." I would therefore insert /walkon to that statement.

Ok.  Fair enough.  Given that opinion though, you have a walkon at tackle and move Schofield to guard.  See what I just did there?  Then you have whichever guard that was replaced move to center.  Yeah, it's far from ideal, but it's definitely workable.

I'm going under the impression that Miller is a pure center and won't be as great a back-up at guard. So if Miller wins his natural position, then we have more utility out of the starters and more flexibility with replacements. The oppoite is having Miller sitting on the bench only playing one position and not contributing as much. If Miller goes down, Barnum slides over from guard, and then can have another guard replace him. If we lose two centers then we're fucked either way.

Yes...but that also means both your centers would be on the field to start with, which increases both their chances of getting hurt.  And since Barnum's injury history suggests that he WILL get hurt, then that's a pretty big risk.

Some of the players may be seeing the end of their football careers and have decided to move on with their M degrees.

Whatever way it was, good luck to you all and make us proud.

Depth wise, yes it hurts us at center to lose Khoury. However, I think if Barnum can play center, we can find a guard out of Mealer, Bryant, Kalis, or even Bars.

guys have a shot at the pros? Cox in particular.  It seems to me that half of the running backs in the NFL come from places I've never heard of.

I guess my "cool story bro" is that I saw Khoury & Morales out bowling together last month.

The friends that bowl together, depart the program together; I'm sure I've seen that cross-stitched on a pillow somewhere.
