AMA = Ask Me Anything

AMAA = Ask Me Almost Anything

IAmA = I am a [Insert noun here]

All of them are threads that the authors create to allow people to ask them questions to which they will respond. There is a whole subreddit dedicated to them and you will see actors, scientists, people with weird professions, people with weird diseases, people who are currently in the middle of their 15 minutes of fame, etc. do them.

Notable quote re: Tenneesee vs. Michigan:

"I'm really looking forward to that game. Probably more than anyone on the planet. But I think the Vols are going to struggle unless their 3-point shooting improves quite a bit. This is assuming they don't grab 60% of their misses as they did against Mercer."

Sounds like he doesn't buy Tenn. maintaining their tremendous offensive rebounding rate. Hope he's right.

Well, looking at ESPN profiles, Mercer's top two rebounders were 6'10" 220lbs and 6'6" 200 lbs.  and neither of them were particularly athletic.  We have Morgan coming in at 6'8" 250 lbs of basically all muscle, and GR3 at 6'6" 220 lbs and an athletic freak (assuming he continues to show up on the glass).  We have a significant advantage over Mercer in the rebounding department.  Maymon and Stokes of Tennessee are both listed at about the same size as Morgan.  Both 6'8" 260 lbs.  For comparison, Payne is 6'10 245lbs and Dawson is 6'6" 225lbs, but Dawson is actually a better rebounder.  We have only played State with both of them once and lost, but it seems that the Spartans are much better defensively than Tennessee, and had also already played us twice and figured us out.

Basically I'm gonna go out on a limb and say if we lose this game, it won't be just because we got killed on the glass (I don't think we're gonna lose).

Sounds about right.  He even admitted his ranking of them was too high, but they are better than an 11 seed so it makes sense.  It is obviously imperative that UM gets an early lead and forces UT to chase them with their crappy shooting; letting them slow down the game and battle for rebounds isn't going to help UM one bit.  But yeah, UM is not Mercer when it comes to rebounding, and Tennesse's advantage in that area drops precipitously if Stokes is taken out for foul trouble.

The person who asked about correlations between the four factors had an interesting question, I thought, and I would suspect that it would vary from team to team simply due to reasons of style more than anything. As we've discussed throughout the season, Michigan's not one of the most prolific teams when it comes to OREB% and we have instead relied quite a bit on our relatively high eFG% this season. Indeed, the correlation between eFG% and victory / loss margin for Michigan is 0.7889, which is reaonably high given the potential confounding factors.

could also correspond to the moods of the members of the MGoBoard (the ones who post on game threads) during many of our basketball games this season:

---The "blue" line signifies the most optimistic of us, always full of sunshine for the first few minutes even if Michigan starts slowly, then having relatively shallow "lows" if and when Michigan struggles at various points of some games.  Finally, then, this group experiences higher "highs" upon winning and then is the most active of the bunch of us in post-game Posbang sessions.

---The "black (dark grey?) line represents the fence-sitter types, slow to get excited at first but then getting caught up in the excitement and generally of guarded optimism as the games progress.They take things in stride after victory and disappear post game, with little interest in post game celebratory posbanging.

---The "red-line" group are those here who think of themselves as normal fans, keeping their chins generally up in the first half no matter how the flow of the games go.  But then, as the second half begins, their true selves emerge and they end up biting off all their fingernails and toenails, too (yeccch!!), in a state of perpetual worry until the Michigan lead becomes completely insurmountable in the final minute or two.  Some must even change their undies once it's over with.

---Finally, we have the "greenies".  Their graph spells nothing other than b-i-p-o-l-a-r.   Take a look and try to draw out any other conclusion if you can!

If we lose it will be because our cold streak shooting coincides with them grabbing every offensive rebound in sight or the bigs get into foul trouble early. I would almost start Horford just to see how the game will be called and absorb some fouls. My bigger concern is how good Tennessee is at driving people off the three point line and how good their guards are at penetrating the lane. I think the size on the perimeter is overblown as stauskas likes bigger defenders in general. I also hope coach finally pulls out the side ball screen between stauskas and Robinson.

Separate topic, but Charlie LeDuff did an AMA yesterday as well.  Someone asked him if the Red Wings were going to make the playoffs, he said he was worried about Michigan bro.

Didn't realize the guy had such a cult following on reddit, or nationally.
