Keep the white pants for road games or nah?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

I say yes. I've gotten so used to them that it actually looked weird to me for a moment seeing the Citrus Bowl practice photos with the white jerseys and Maize pants.

Here's a mock up by a message board poster from SportsLogo.net of what it would look like next year with Maize pants.

4-1 in them, including 4 straight wins and a perfect record in B1G road games for the first time since 1997.

adidas did a very good job with the road uniform design this year. Hopefully Nike keeps something similar in terms of the jerseys.

I'm for keeping the white pants. They highlight the iconic helmet much more and the maize pant stripe goes well with the stripes on the helmet as well.  My wife also says I have "no fashion sense."  So take my opinion for what it is worth.  I just want to win.

into a "winged striped" version w/ the wing at the top of the hips and three maize stripes on a blue background merging into a single stripe near the bottom.

(OK, that'll probably look terrible when actually drawn, but it had possibilities when limited to my imagination.)

#1 to a linebacker???? This is Michigan! The #1 is sacred and only given to WRs that earn the distinction of being a grid iron legend... See; Anthony Carter, Derrick Alexander, David Terrell, Braylon Edwards.... Desmond didnt wear it because D.A. Had it during the same time...

Wait... what? How is the #1 jersey a circus? Legend numbers or w/e the fuck were a circus.

The #1 jersey is not a circus and has been a tradition for decades.

I doubt Harbaugh would get rid of it, and the #1 jersey is still listed as an official tradition on MGoBlue.

"You must earn it" was started by Lloyd when he trying to motivate Braylon.

Give it to a freshman and be done with it. You know, what Bo did originally with A.C. He gave #1 to him because he was a special recruit.

It's a circus because of how it's been handled the last decade. Manningham turning it down, the whole Braylon and RR saga, Funchess having 3 different numbers in 3 different years.

I think it would look good on an LB. Regardless of who wears it, my opinion is that it should just be given out to a freshman so it's always in circulation. A decade of collecting dust isn't right.

Thank you. Carr held it over Braylon's head as motivation. AC, Terrell, Alexander never had to earn it. That was just their number. Chesson is 86. Keep it that way. Amani Toomer never switched to 1. Nor Tai Streets, or Marquis Walker or Manningham or Arrington, etc. If they wanna keep #1 in the receiver family, fine. Give it to a promising freshman. Enough with the musical numbers.

Why not give it to Gary because he would be the first #1 football recruit to attend UM? It was used as motivation to Braylon because the number meant something; it was special... Oh and it seemed to have worked if my memory serves me correctly.... I cannot picture Harbaugh doing away with a Tradition started by Bo.

You're correct in statement of the facts. Carr did use that as a motivating ploy for Braylon. Bo also put up the Those Who Stay sign as a ploy to motivate his first team. It became a thing, and then a tradition, and then a legend, and a creed that the whole program is built around. Things change. Traditions begin and sometimes they end. I like the #1 being reserved for a top receiver. It's not critical, but it is a nice little modern tradition. You can try to dismiss it, and I can try to stick up for it, but neither of us can just say, "It's stupid, be done with it," because saying it doesn't make it so. There is also the small matter of our opinions meaning nothing at all.

#1 should definitely go to a receiver, but I hate this idea of it going to a guy who is established and great. All the Braylon crap did was make sure no one wears it anymore. If you wait til a guy is already good, it will barely be worn. Chesson can have it for a year, but then he's gone. Another reason it shouldn't be so tough to give out is I hate seeing people here trashing a receiver for not living up to the number and saying it should be taken away.

#1 for a WR and #2 for a secondary player but beyond that I don't care so long as they get worn.

Ahmir Mitchell confirmed tonight that he's wearing #2 so we can throw that secondary player idea out. I'm pumped. #2 will look great on a WR. Hasn't been done since Walter Smith. I don't care if I'm getting bombed in this thread or not. #1 on a LB sounds good to me. Or any legal player save QB. You can double it up some years and have two #1s.
