Kareem Walker Still on the Team

Submitted by DrMantisToboggan on

According to Chengelis, Baumgardner, and others on Twitter, Michigan people have denied the reports of Kareem Walker's dismissal, and he is still fully with the program.

I do not mean to call anyone out with this post, but there are at least some positive conflicting reports to the earlier information that was shared here. I hope it plays out with Kareem remaining a contributing part of our team.

As long as he didn't hurt anybody or is a potential threat to public safety, I wouldn't mind Harbaugh giving this guy "extra" chances if it gives us a better chance to win.

When in Rome...

When in Rome don't smoke weed while we're all in Rome, Kareem, damnit!

But yes, I don't know what Kareem has or hasn't done, the reason I thought he missed the bowl game was a family issue, but I could be just as wrong as a Chat Sports article. That being said, if there's no negative externalities a la a DUI or something I hope that the guys that make us better are given some chances.

He obviously is, as evidenced by his handling of the Glasgow situation two years ago. What can't be devined from Jim's DUI from 13 years ago is how he handles a 4th violation of an offense that, if the scuttlebutt is true, has no negative externalities. It's a different issue and a much higher degree of unwillingness to make personal changes to subscribe to team rules. Jim's DUI really has no bearing here.

It seems like we hear rumors about Walker every few months though. There's definitely something going on with the young man. Hope he has a great career here

I didn't personally do it, but Seth seems to have done this if I remember what I read in the Mod Sticky earlier. I have done this to other folks who post ChatSports links, or at the very minimum, they've been sent to Bolivia for the duration of....well, life. I sense that a repost of the people and sources non grata, if you will, are probably in order as it seems to have happened quite a bit lately.

i like how kareem walker runs angry.

i'm guessing it is weed related.  frankly, weed needs to be rescheduled federally and decriminalized.  it is not a performance enhancing drug so it should not be something tested for in athletes.

Why aren’t alcohol and tobacco illegal? People can keep their shitty beer they convince themselves is good, keep their liquor that will ruin their liver, keep smoking cigarettes until there lungs look like a burnt, dry, shriveled chicken breast injected with rat poison and other chemicals, I’ll stick with my naturally grown god given marijuana...and my run-on grammatically incorrect sentences. Sorry Michigan standard.

Cigarette smokers, you smell bad.

Alcoholics, you smell bad.

Me, I probably do too, but I don’t tell you what to do

but bothers me not so no worry. And in answer to your question, I think you are growing close. The problem, as I see it right now, the majority of the good shit, the kind that will make you take back shit you never even fucking stole, is in the hands of those without all the money. When a deal similar to Shark Tank is done and the money flows into the hands of those that understand fully how to keep massive profits in their hands, you will not make alcohol and tobacco illegal, but your shit will come very very close to becoming a legal substance. Has to happen. See no way around it.

It was meant as an indirect (yet pretty direct) jab. I’m just saying don’t judge people over marijuana like it’s heroin. Opiates are the real enemy. I’m also not advocating alcohol and tobacco should be illegal. I like my alcohol on occasion. People can do what they like.

I agree with you to an extant but “the people with money who know how to keep their profit” thing is where I don’t agree. That’s why Ohio’s attempt at legalizing backfired because they “inadvertently” monopolized the bill to where only certain people could do certain things. That defeats the purpose of legalization, it’s just another dealer who can do whatever they want and you can’t even get a sliver of the pie. More money for the wealthy where they can pay shitty wages to their workers.

I’m not into all the legal bullshit and it’s not gonna deter me from living my life. But people are such hypocrites.

Out here in Washington State, we legalized it a couple of years ago.

Pros: Lots of tax revenue, Opiate overdoses down

Cons: Homeless population in places like Seattle up drastically as a result of teens moving here from other states, anecdotal accounts from people like therapists that it's negatively impacted some users' lives

On the whole, as someone who used it once when it became legal just to confirm it makes me paranoid and jittery and in no way does anything pleasant for me, it seems like the rise in homeless teens is the biggest change.  I'm not sure how to consider that: I assume most or all of these people were homeless somehwere else before moving here, so it's not a net loss for society, but it is a negative locally.

Hard to say. I've heard the same thing in regards to Denver which anyone who has walked 16th Street lately can attest too. But it's hard to seperate out some of the other factors that play into homelessness like the increasing lack of affordable housing for LMI individuals and the opiod crisis.

Personally, I think it is a net positive. Weed was available before and there hasn't been substantial increase in consumption. Tax revenue is generated. I'd rather people pay a licensed business operating in compliance with our state regulations rather than support street criminals who will ultimately funnel those profits back to the extraordinarily violent and destructive cartels.

You must be kidding. Those two outlets are the fakest of fake news. CNN alone has issued something like 30 retractions alone since the inauguration. It doesn’t really matter though bc extremely brainwashed people like you would refuse to believe it.

I agree with you, but that won't change how private businesses (and in this case a football team) regulate its use amongst their employees. If your boss tells you that you have to be able to pass urine tests for marijuana or you will be fired, and you fail three tests, your boss isn't the jerk, you are. If Jim says that positive marijuana tests will be punished, and you fail 3 drug tests, don't complain to the man - it was the Jim's rule not the government's that affected you.

I agree that weed should be totally decriminalized (and it mostly is in Ann Arbor) and rescheduled, but that might not change head coaches' rules about it, and those are the true governing rules for anyone that willingly signs up to play for that coach.

Don't disagree.  if the team rules are no weed then those are the team rules.  i believe in contract law.  I live in LA and this is an emerging gray area where weed is legal at the state level but still federally schedule 1 and illegal.  businesses are still trying to figure out how to address the legality issue.  fun.

correct but THC can stay in body fat up to roughly 30 days depending on individual metabolism.  showing up drunk or high to work is definitely a firable offense but smoking a joint saturday night on personal time and then pissing dirty a week later is what california is trying to figure out how to handle.
