Justin Feagin on Special Teams

Submitted by anup414 on

Even though we lost, I was excited about our offense which played really well. Odoms punt return? Stonums touchdown? Threet throwing 51 yards? Cissokos 53 yard return? We got some talent and I am excited.

Justin Feagin played in the game on Special Teams, so I guess his redshirt is out the window. (http://mgoblue.com/football/article.aspx?id=153770)

This is ALL speculation on my part - but why the fuck would be burn the redshirt this late in the season? I know Rich Rodriguez said that Feagin would "probably" make a permanent shift to slot reciever, but I don't know how much I believe that. Maybe he's saving Feagin for Ohio State so we can catch them off guard and beat them? I just find it very strange that he played in the game.

That's all speculation on my part. I am just trying to find anywhere I can to create some excitement for what is left of this season.

In 5 years, we will have much better options at the slot.  Knowing this, RR is probably trying to use Feagin in the time period where he will have the biggest impact.  It will be nice to have multiple options at the slot, even if only to give Odoms a rest.

that's not really bagging on him.  RR probably sees that he won't be nearly as good as the natural slot guys he's bringing in so why tie up a sholarship for an extra year on him?

Players don't have to be given a 5th year of eligibility.  The staff could just as easily cut him off after four years, whether he's redshirted or not.

in theory yes, but there are only a few guys that get "cut" like that a year.  if the guy is busting his ass and trying his best they typically keep them on.  With his speed he's probably just good enough to keep on sholarship but not going to be good enough to be a game to game contributor.

Either Feagin gets in the game at slot for the remainder of the season, or he's just not good at any position and will probably be a special teamer forever.
