Josh Garnett's Twitter indicates he's a blue fan
January 24th, 2012 at 12:00 AM ^
not to mention hoke told Garnett he an Magnuson can room together
January 24th, 2012 at 2:26 PM ^
Did he promise Garnett they could room together or promise them the opportunity to room together?
Let's defuse this controversy before it even starts.
January 24th, 2012 at 12:07 AM ^
but just because someone is a fan of the school doesn't make them leaning that way.
I hope he chooses Michigan as much as anyone on this site. If he chooses us, I'm pretty sure they have their own choice on who they want to room with, unless it's during camp in the summer.

It's nice of them to think about the hearing impared fans -- signing the victors along with the rest of the team's singing it will be a nice touch.

Following a highschoolers Tweets this closely is strange. Also, lets assume those interested in his Tweets are probably following him - so no need to repost them here.
January 24th, 2012 at 12:36 AM ^
I would say not true on both counts. Big time recruits are public figures, whether they like it or not, but they don't need to have a twitter. Him and Magnuson could text or email just as easily, or facebook message, write on each other's walls, etc. They use twitter because they want to be public, so it's fine.
As to the second point, I don't do the twitters, but these are interesting to me. I don't want to sign up to follow these guys, but I appreciate when the important stuff is posted.
January 24th, 2012 at 12:45 AM ^
I'm actually very into Twitter and I have been for a while for reasons totally unrelated to college recruiting. I think TVH tweeting news or links is totally acceptable, but to repeat conversations between folks is something I'm not interested in. Oh well, to each his own I guess.
January 24th, 2012 at 12:50 AM ^
No doubt there's a line. When you hear of people saying "a friend of mine from high school is facebook friends with ______ and he sent me a picture that was taken of his visit to U of ______ and his girlfriend was wearing their sweatshirt in another pic so he must want to go there" that's across the line, because maybe they didn't want the whole world knowing that stuff.
But twitter is public on purpose. Any info Josh Garnett doesn't want the world to know, he won't put on Twitter. He's a smart kid. I don't think Twitter is across the line.
January 24th, 2012 at 9:14 AM ^
Gotta agree with Wolvin here. Twitter and Facebook are perfectly acceptable ways of getting information that otherwise would be very difficult to get, short of calling recruits, and you don't have to rely on TomVH to get it, it's totally public. Having said that if these kids want to keep this info on the DL then they need to text or email or IM each other. There are lots of technologies that are more private. Many recruits choose to tweet or post so I have to assume they want people to see it. Now if someone is on there tweeting to these kids trying to influence them then that's over the line in my opinion. I have gotten into it on twitter with a buck fan that was harassing Pipkins. Douche move. A grown man harassing a HS kid for rivalry comments. That is totally over the line IMO. Use it for info not for influence.

But the pick he retweeted today, that his friend took while he was working out, shows him in a Stanford Cardinal shirt ..... I hope that doesn't mean anything. This one is going to come down to the wire.
January 24th, 2012 at 1:10 AM ^
Nothing to worry about. (at least this specifically) He took officials to stanford so he obviously has shirts from there. I know I visited many colleges and bought shirts at many of the places. I wore them when I knew I would be attending michigan and I still wear them. What they're wearing has more to do with where they have been than where they will go.
January 24th, 2012 at 1:19 AM ^
I swear it's a St. Louis Cardinals tee shirt!
January 24th, 2012 at 1:24 AM ^
He's in the gym--that's wear you wear your old crummy shirts that you don't mind getting all sweaty and nasty. When's he's done lifting and takes a shower, he'll put on his Michigan shirt.
January 24th, 2012 at 8:25 AM ^
Doesn't his left knee look it's totally out of joint?
January 24th, 2012 at 1:00 PM ^
I really don't know.
January 24th, 2012 at 1:14 AM ^
This one really could go either way. I mean if it was me, and I'm trying to be as unbiased as possible, I'd still pick Michigan. Both schools are essentially equal across the board from academics to athletics, but Michigan football means so much more to the university than it does to Stanford. Plus we've got the Magnuson factor.
I think the only thing Stanford has going for it is that it's closer to home.
January 24th, 2012 at 1:24 AM ^
The weather may be just a tad nicer at Stanford.
January 24th, 2012 at 2:25 AM ^
He doesn't look too cold.
January 24th, 2012 at 9:28 AM ^
Academics being essentially equal I have to say UM has better football tradition and their program is trending up where I would say Stanford's is trending down (Harbaugh/Luck departures). Proximity and weather I would say are countered by his strong friendship with Magnuson. Plus the weather isn't as big a deal as some may think. I lived in Bellevue Washington which is about 45 min North of Puyallup and although it may not get as cold as it does in A2 it's not a lot warmer, maybe an average of 10-20 degrees. So although Stanford's weather may be nicer than UM, he's grown up in weather that isn't a lot different.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:03 AM ^
There's no way I'd consider the academics essentially equal between Stanford and UM. There may be a few programs on par but as an overall academic institution, to me (and the "objective" rankings that are out there) there is no comparison between the two schools.
February 1st, 2012 at 2:48 PM ^
Granted Stanford is a perennial top 10 school and UM is a top 25 school, but out of 100's of universities how much really seperates the 2 schools. They're both prestigious schools with a lengthy history of being so. Put it this way, is an employer with no affiliation to either school, going to pick a Stanford grad over a UM grad just because it's Stanford? Is their Law School and Med School significantly superior?
January 24th, 2012 at 11:14 AM ^
I lived in Port Orchard; and yes the weather is very different from AA. I had to mow my lawn from time to time in January-- very different from blowing snow.
February 1st, 2012 at 3:06 PM ^
I lived in Bellevue WA for 15 years and never mowed my lawn in January or saw any of my neighbors do so. As far as from a temperature standpoint the Seattle area average's about 45F where as AA averages 25F. This year I would say that gap closed a bit.
January 24th, 2012 at 1:22 AM ^
Stanford is over 800 miles from his hometown. If anything it is a west coast/midwest type of thing, but it is not a matter of proximity. Probably more to do with weather/culture rather than distance.
January 24th, 2012 at 1:30 AM ^
If these recruits commit to Michigan, I'll be worried about the day Mattison isn't at Michigan (retires or whatever) and be pre-broken-hearted.
If these recruits don't commit to Michigan, I'll be pissed with the cheating SOBs Michigan recruits against and be broken-hearted.
In conclusion, I never feel good about anything.
January 24th, 2012 at 2:36 AM ^
Go away.
January 24th, 2012 at 7:55 AM ^
I think he is playing with us. He knows how much we pay attention to his recruiting. IF he really means all of the things he says about Michigan on twitter and in interviews, he would already be Blue. Prediction: He ends up at Stanford.
January 24th, 2012 at 8:33 AM ^
both know sign language?
January 24th, 2012 at 8:38 AM ^
hard to imagine he wouldn't commmit to michigan just based on his bromance with erik magnuson
January 24th, 2012 at 8:56 AM ^
I'm really not getting my hopes up. I feel like he knows he has the Michigan fans on a leash. Ex: look at this topic! He's been so close with Erik through the process so we have that but still something doesn't add up. The way he talks, I feel like he would have committed months ago. There just seems to be something more to it that he obviously isn't putting in social media and might be letting recruiting experts know he's thinking Stanford.

I totally now what you mean!
January 24th, 2012 at 9:40 AM ^
Everytime he talks positvely about Michigan, its a good thing, and ill take it.
January 24th, 2012 at 10:02 AM ^
So, I read through several of his tweets, and I was extremely impressed and surprised to find this one:
Hate when ignorant people bash gay rights without any knowledge of what their saying #equalrights
I think he'd fit right in at Michigan. It's hard to believe that a mammoth of a man who plays football could be so open minded. That certainly doesn't fit the stereotype. (Especially in contrast to Yuri Wright.)
I hope he comes to A2. Go blue!
January 24th, 2012 at 10:17 AM ^
It makes UM fans look a little silly to say the academics are pretty equivalent between the two schools. I'd still pick UM over Stanford if I were him, but it would be on the understanding that I was giving up a bit of an edge in school reputation.
January 24th, 2012 at 10:30 AM ^
I think that while Stanford may have the better reputation, UM is also highly regarded. It's not like he's choosing between Stanford and some SEC school or even a decent school like OSU or MSU. UM is a great university with a national and international reputation.
If he's thinking about how can this university get me to the next level academically (which I think he's mentioned is medical school), excelling at UM would give him just as good a chance to get into anywhere he wanted compared to Stanford or any other school in the country.
January 24th, 2012 at 10:26 AM ^
..of what "they're" saying.
January 24th, 2012 at 10:29 AM ^
I think it would be one cruel turn of events for Mags to carry on this bromance with Josh for so long only to have Josh tell him on Thursday morning that he was going to Stanford. Who would be so evil?
