Jim McElwain Press availability: May play multiple QBs
Just saw a couple tweets from Florida beat guys. Some interesting stuff.
Gators coach Jim McElwain says all three QBs could play. "I think there's some things they all bring to the table that's really good."
— Mark Long (@APMarkLong) August 23, 2017
McElwain: "We haven't gotten into Michigan prep at all. When you guys get their roster let me know who we're playing." #Gators

Mac says it's not disconcerting that they don't have a starting quarterback because he "likes how they're playing."

Mac on Michigan: "A couple years ago they physically dominated us."

Michigan NEVER does that.
...oh wait.

This pic will never get old. Ever.

Never noticed that the other PSU players have as much interest in helping their QB as Branch does.
August 23rd, 2017 at 1:37 PM ^
It's partly because, while Branch nearly killed Morelli, PSU actually gained 24 yards on that play.

This is glorious...

Florida is so screwed.

I heard Nolan Ulizio is now in the competition to start at QB for the Gators

That Florida is screwed brings little comfort to the sharks who will undoubtedly have to deal with an upset Jim McElwain on the 2nd of September. You don't want to upset a shark, even if you might have feelings for it.

When one is spacing off about sharks all day, it is hard to put a lot of focus and effort into their real job.

I remember his interview at halftime of the Orange Bowl, when he said "we're gonna get the boys regrouped and come out in the second half and fling it around and see what happens."
I knew then that Harbaugh would crush him.
August 23rd, 2017 at 12:10 PM ^
But I'd bet that as it stands now, Del Rio would get at least the bulk of the first half snaps. He has the highest floor and you may want to just keep the game close to the vest.
August 23rd, 2017 at 12:14 PM ^
I hope it's Del Rio. He's a known commodity and there is plenty of tape on him. We'll see if the coaching staff can request some copies from America's Funniest Home Videos.
August 23rd, 2017 at 1:37 PM ^
Please no Del Rio. Just no. I'm riding the Franks or bust train.
August 23rd, 2017 at 2:35 PM ^
This is exactly why we want LDR.
August 23rd, 2017 at 12:10 PM ^
What a great way to develop chemistry to receivers and get enough 1st reps! We saw how well it worked for other teams in the past.
August 23rd, 2017 at 12:12 PM ^
Their best wide receiver may not even play....

No chance I'm buying into Callaway siting. Will be surprised if he does sit....
August 23rd, 2017 at 12:43 PM ^
It was just a harebrained conspiracy to commit felony theft and fraud. He'll be rehabilitated after he wakes up at 5am to run some steps.
August 23rd, 2017 at 1:40 PM ^
I've run those steps and those spirals at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium many times. That junk sucks. (seriuosly though, Calloway needs to be suspended)
August 23rd, 2017 at 1:16 PM ^
Honest question: has there been any real talk of Callaway not sitting the game? I haven't seen anything official saying that McElwain is leaning towards reinstating him. Or even being on the fence about it. Even if Callaway helped UF win the game, McElwain would take a lot of heat from everyone not named Finebaum if he went back on his decision to suspend him. Would just be a bad look for him.
And then imagine if he reinstated Callaway and Florida still lost. He would not be able to fall back on "at least we won." That's the kind of decision that would play a big part in getting you fired.
August 23rd, 2017 at 1:34 PM ^
That all came out of a press conference when a reporter asked about the players being reinstated to the team. McElwain said it wasn't necessarily going to be through the Michigan game. But, when I listened to the quote it sounded to me that he was referring to being allowed to practice again and wasn't necessarily referring to the game status.
That said, I would not be shocked if he were to play.
August 23rd, 2017 at 2:15 PM ^
Yeah many people interpreted that quote a little weird. It didn't seem to me that there was any doubt on his status for the Michigan game. It was more like "when can he practice and when can he play in a game again (after Michigan)".
August 23rd, 2017 at 2:31 PM ^
The question asked about participation before the Michigan game (including practice, not necessarily including but also not excluding playing in a game). McElwain handwaved the question by saying "when it's resolved." I took that to be an entirely reasonable dodge that avoids setting any timetable.
It doesn't eliminate the possibility of Callaway playing, but it also doesn't abrogate the original statement that the players were suspended for the first game.

"When you guys get their roster let me know who we're playing"
Really shooting yourself in the foot there Mac. Harbaugh is not the coach to take cheap shots at over inconsequential stuff less than two weeks before a game.
August 23rd, 2017 at 12:16 PM ^
Meanwhile, Harbaugh has been scheming since January 1st.

More than that, it also proves Harbaugh's point that releasing a roster can only help the opponent.

Imagine if the Sheridan/Threet team played THREE QBs. Two QBs always pissed me off for whatever reason.
