Jeter's priorities

Submitted by MGoFoam on

First, my sincerest apology for a freep link. I clicked it before I realized it was freep, but then felt compelled to share it.

Derek Jeter made Hannah Davis wait while he watched the Michigan game. Awesome costume, I must say. Also, more proof that freep writers are idiots, because this one chastises him for that.

I ran into Jeter several years ago in Indy. I was standing in the lobby of a hotel, watching UM-UCLA basketball. An non-descript man was sitting in front of me. When the game ended, he stood up and turned around. It was the captain of the Yankees. I know, cool story bro.

That's the best part.  You can tell that he was really into it, just like the rest of us.  You can be sure that he had no idea that this picture was even being taken until it showed up on Twitter.

Win or lose, Michigan is everywhere. Especially since Harbaugh to Michigan: It's Happening! became a thing. I'm so glad it has once again become "because winning" more than "not winning" that we are talked about.

this made me think of the Michigan alums or students who dated/married/shtooped supermodels:

Arthur Miller/Marilyn Monroe

Chris Webber/ Tyra Banks

Derek Jeter/Hannah Davis

Tom Brady/ Gisele

Me/Jessica Alba (during every Friday posbang)

feel free to add all the ones I've overlooked.

I'd like to hear more. There aren't a whole lot of things I can see you interrupting a game for. And the thing that comes to mind first can wait. I mean, why during a Michigan game? I don't get it. Unless someone is running an experiment to see what would pull you away from a Michigan game, and how much power they have. SMH.

For me, the one thing that will pull always pull me away from Michigan is when my son is playing ball at the same time. It has happened. Rarely, but it has happened.

to hear more, as I've always suspected you were some sort of deviant.

I'd tell the story if it was a girlfriend, but it was my wife, so I have to give her a little more respect than that.  Suffice it to say that a costume and props were involved.

As to the why, it was never explained to me, but I suspect you are correct.  She just wanted to see what it would take to get me to pause the game and focus on her.

I'm not a total SOB though.  I have missed games (very rarely) for various kid/wife/family obligations / emergencies.  Although they're always on the DVR and I go into a self imposed media blackout period until I can get home and watch it.

Plus one to you. And of course I'm deviant. I could have told you that myself.

Yeah, I wonder how much wives are willing to put up with as far as Michigan fandom goes. My better half actually is good with watching most of the games with me, but it certainly isn't something she schedules herself around. And iirc, she has rolled her eyes more than once when I told her I was going to this game, or that, or scheduling around something Michigan related. Football she deals with, basketball she has less tolerance for (in terms of Michigan trumping something else).

Well, he used to play next to a former Michigan quarterback. And he was at the 1997 Michigan-Ohio State game and other home matchups for The Game. Pretty good bet he'll be in A2 for the upcoming contest. By the way, he brought several Yankee teammates with him to watch games in the past.

I was at an M basketball game and people were pointing at some guys sitting across the court from the student section. I look over: hmm, those guys look familiar. It was Jeter, Jason Giambi, Jorge Posada, Enrique Wilson, and Jeff Weaver. Naturally, the student section seemed most interested in making fun of Weaver.

I was back at a Michigan game in fall of 1997 (I think--it could have been 1998) and Jeter was at Touchdown's that evening. I think that was the same night that I saw Harbaugh at Touchdowns, but might I might be conflating two different evenings. (It's not that I was impaired--it's that I graduated from Michigan in 1996 so I'm getting to the age where I am having trouble remembering things that happened two years ago, let alone twenty years ago).

I know: not-even-approaching-cool story bro.
