Jerry Palm: Brackets Finalized, Michigan will get 4th 1-seed. Edit: So much for that.

Submitted by a2_electricboogaloo on

The bracket is final...even if Michigan loses, I'm sticking with them as the 4th No. 1. The committee could rightly disagree, but not w/UVa

So despite the mess that is this game, I guess we have that going for us.

A fair number of projections as early as noon-ish still had us as the top #2 seed and looking up at Villanova for the final #1 spot. The result of the game in isolation today may not have been the best, but I suppose I could see a scenario where the committee switched us and Villanova. If this is indeed the case, what Palm has said, I definitely would not complain.

I trust that he knows what he's doing but the committee said they were working with 2 contingencies as of 1-2 hrs ago. What could it have possibly been based on other than the Michigan-MSU game. I have to think we're going to end up #5-6 overall

We barely beat Illinois. We barely beat OSU. We lost huge to MSU. We barely beat PURDUE in OT.

Does anyone really think we are a top 4 team?

Nope, but you can make an excellent case we had a top 4 season, which is what the seedings are about, not any of this predictive bullshit, which is why dropping Kansas because Embiid is hurt or raising them because he'll be back in the second weekend or rewarding hypothetical Michigan State which was healthy with a higher seed is ridiculous.

You get what you earned by winning in the regular season.

It doesn't make you a bad fan if you believe that a team that won the ACC regular and postseason tournament while only losing two conference games total and with a better overall record than we had is a more deserving #1 seed.  They lost two close games in a very good conference.  We were dominated in all four of our Big 10 losses.  I realize our overall SOS was stronger, but that's virtually the only argument in our favor.

#2 is a success story for this team, and if anyone would have said we'd reach that high after the Charlotte loss we never would have believed it.  I would have loved getting a #1 spot - and I suppose we still might - but if I'm doing my best not to be biased then I have trouble not putting Virginia ahead of us.

This is almost a #1 seed - hold that Arizona lead and I'm right there with the rest of you.

I have.  Say what you will about quality wins, too.  At some point, not losing games is also a factor, else Wichita would be nowhere near the #1 spot.  Virginia lost two ACC games total, by a combined six points I believe.  We were dominated in all four of our conference losses.  They won both the regular season and tournament titles, while Wisconsin was busy finishing three games out of first place by losing such games as at home against Northwestern, then getting dominated in the Big 10 semis.  Yes, they won the head to head game.  They also beat Florida, and there is no way they deserve to finish ahead of the Gators.

Than virginia. Virginia has only 3 top 25 RPI wins and Michigan has 6. Virginia has only 5 top 50 RPI wins and Michigan had 10. Michigan has a far superior road resume as well.

No possible way. But I'd take the latest Lunardi with Mich a 2 in East with UVA a 1, Syracuse 3 and Chreighton the 4. Better than IA st, Duke or Louisville as the 3.

I don't really care if we are a 1 ... or 2 ... or 3 for that matter. Eventually we'll have to beat good teams. If we're good enough, we'll win. Everything is about matchups. I'd rather play a Wichita State or Villanova than Wisconsin or Michigan State. We got ourselves in one of the top seeds, and that is the important part. Plenty of 2 seeds have won the tournmanet. The only seed that matters is the #1 Overall seed, because the rest of the bracket is structured around your team. Just win some fucking games.

I don't know... So many things could go any way with the tourney... This team has not played particularily well when having a huge target on its back in terms of rankings in the polls and has played very well with a chip on their shoulders.  So I mean I'm not sure if I want to go under the radar against teams like KU and Cuse or if I want to play with a target on our backs... Good advice... JUST WIN THE GAME

If it's Michigan vs UVA, Michigan's resume is vastly better.

UVA had an easy path through the ACC and has far fewer top 50 RPI wins than Michigan does. If it's head-to-head us-vs-them, we should come out on top regardless of today's games

1 or 2 won't upset me too much. We had a great year this season and looking forward to a great tournament run!

I have a hard time believing we're not a 2, but I'm fine with 2 in the Midwest vs. 1 in the East, anyway.

I really want a Friday game.

Thread title is misleading.  That tweet admits that UM might NOT have a 1 seed.

UM might get a 1 seed, but can we at least have a little bit of reading comprehension.
