Jarius Adams ('15 CB Prospect) Update

Submitted by MLaw06 on

Jarius visited Rutgers this past weekend and told Coach Kyle Flood that he will be visiting Michigan this coming weekend (with his parents).  In explaining his decision, Jarius noted that he is "pretty solid" on Rutgers, but Michigan has been his "dream school growing up" so he just had to see it.

Considering that this is from a NJ newspaper (which is the de facto local newspaper for Rutgers in the area), this seems to be pretty dang positive for Michigan.  Rutgers has thrown the kitchen sink at keeping Jarius, but he doesn't want to shut down the process until he sees Michigan.

I know you're all with me when I say, "come on and sign with MICHIGAN, Jarius, come and live your dream!"

Adams' parents will also accompany him to Michigan, the final stop he'll make before selecting his collegiate destination.

"I just wanted to check it out since it was pretty much a dream school growing up," Adams said. "I just want to check out the stuff that I've never seen. That's pretty much it."

Adams explained his position to head coach Kyle Flood at some point throughout the weekend. Apparently, Flood was measured in his response.

"He wasn't happy about it," said Adams. "But when I explained to him why I was going up there, then he pretty much understood and he was okay with it.

"I just told him it was a team that I liked when I was young, so I wanted to check it out," Adams continued. "You only have this opportunity once, so you have to make the best of it."

In addition, Jarius cares about "academics" and "jobs" post-graduation.  I don't know how Rutgers can say with a straight face that they are better than Michigan in those regards.  I think if the coaches put on the full-court press, we stand a very good chance with Jarius.

The wording he's using and the quotes do make it seem as if he's basically trying to make sure he doesn't completely burn his bridge at Rutgers while taking Michigan seriously.

I'm taking nothing for granted right now(given the late timetable you have to treat every prospect as an added bonus if he signs and not have expectations), but this does seem like a good sign.

Haha... It was a lot more one-sided until "mgoaggie" threw me a lifeline and upvoted me everywhere.  Anyway, it was just kind of funny because I didn't even say anything opinionated or controversial... was just quoting TomVH, but it ended up being wrong...

that this year is a particular opportunity for many recruits that might not even get a 2nd look next or the year after as michigan starts to roll.

Just seems like a local paper covering a committed prospect.

As explanation, the comments sections of NJ.com are the most popular forum for Rutgers discussions (for example, the numerous comments reminding everyone that they beat Michigan this year, etc.).  They don't have a large blog like MGoBlog that acts as a forum for their fan base.  Therefore, this local newspaper's website is generally pro-Rutgers and is the main gathering place and source for Rutgers news, rumors and hype.

While it's true that (a) print journalism is moving to the digital page from the papers that we used to get thrown in the driveway or in the mailbox every morning, and (b) other than Rutgers pages on the recruiting websites and one at SB Nation called "On The Banks," there doesn't seem to be any dedicated Rutgers sports blog like this one, I'm fairly sure that the Newark Star Ledger -- where nj.com is based -- remains the largest circulated newspaper in New Jersey,

Even though Jarius Adams seems unlikely to decommit from the school where he apparently has made solid connections with the coaches and other incoming recruits, I suppose it won't hurt for him to be given a tour of The Big House and Schembechler Hall, so he'll have a better idea of what he'll be missing by choosing to spend his next four years "On The Banks" of the Raritan River in New Brunswick, New Jersey. . . . And then maybe he can tell his high school football teammates about the benefits of a Michigan educaiton.

So take the opposite.

Jarius Adams is a Michigan commit and he is taking a visit to Rutgers. Mgoblog/Ace writes an article about it. Since Mgoblog is a pro-Michigan site, it means it is positive for Rutgers?

I think him visiting is positive for Michigan, not that an article about his visit was written by a pro-Rutgers site.

Can we please stop ripping on the academics/jobs-post-graduation thing? The fact is that one can get a fine education at Rutgers, or any of the Big Ten schools, for that matter. Nobody is pretending that Rutgers is "better than Michigan in those regards," but it's still a good school.

Not to besmirch Rutgers, but there are material differences between the two institutions with respect to academics and post-grad employment opportunities.

In addition, Rutgers fans have a myopic view of Michigan (and are kind of annoying)... for example,

"Past success is no guarantee of future performance. Michigan is a relic that once got fat off the blue collar autoworkers kids. Those days are long gone. Michigan football should be a case study."

"Would you rather hang out after practice in Ann Arbor or New York City? Rather go to Hoboken or Detroit...rather go to the beach or a toxic dump of a lake. Great you have 100,000 in a stadium we have the largest media market in the free world. The best part is when you're done playing at Rutgers you have connections in a job market that is actually hiring and pays well."

"If one wants a family atmosphere, Jim Harbaugh is the least likely person to exude that vibe, unless one likes an arrogant short-tempered bully. But it is MI and that may be enough to convince him that it will really, really improve once he gets there. It won't."

Dont get ur panties in a bunch its still NJ..plus these are 18yr old college kids, they are not rolling in money to go party in NY, its not cheap, actually far from it..the beach thing I do prefer a ocean over a lake but western Michigan has beautifull beaches as well.
