James Hudson leaving program

Rumor on 247 supported by a Facebook post from his mom.

I think we all know someone in college who had to leave for one reason or another.  My roommate just decided not to take his spring semester finals and was required to take time off.  At 40, it is easy to forget what a change college was  and I didn’t have the pressure of a student athlete.

Link (I assume it's premium on 247 but maybe to the FB?)?  That would really suck if so, though it would partially explain Stueber getting in Saturday.  We need all the bullets possible for tackle next year, and he sure seemed like a high upside option.

Holy sh-t. Is this a result of Stueber going into the game instead of him Saturday perhaps? If so, it doesn't reflect well on him. Then again, I have known some truly overly emotional players' parents - perhaps this is just his Mom venting? Then again, if that was the case, why wouldn't Hudson refute her comments on his twitter?

If true, that would be terrible. I wonder if it's a playing time issue or maybe getting passed up. He was such a promising DL target that if he would be passed, I would love to see him get moved back to DT. He could be another Hurst/Dwumfour type

Um... there are no such gods. The closest thing is Warinner, and he's coaching our OL. Grad transfers and recruits are going to be lining up.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions about why Hudson left. Everyone's life is different, and Michigan isn't for everyone.

Is there some benefit to these guys leaving before the end of a special season? Seems like it must be an issue related to fit with the guys/program to bounce mid season. Very strange that he was supposedly the next tackle up and is now leaving. Have to think mayfield and steuber passed him but still weird timing.

He does have to sit out next year. Only graduate transfers and players with exceptions or waivers can get out of the one academic year in residence requirement. He would lose a year of eligibility because he already took his redshirt year, meaning he has two years left to play two after his year in residence. He could go the junior college route next year and then be eligible to play after that for his remaining two years.

Quite honestly, if you are going to transfer, you need to do it like Singleton and Hudson after your freshman or sophomore academic year. After your junior/RS sophomore year, you might as well stick it out, get your degree, and then graduate transfer and be eligible immediately.

Not calling BS yet, but he played against Wisconsin.  I found this quote from Harbaugh's presser (H/T DetNews)

"James had dislocated a finger in the previous ball game (against Wisconsin) so Andrew had more reps and went ahead on the depth chart for this week."

I'm hoping this is just a terrible rumor to try and dampen our spirits.

I remember seeing posts on 247 about he and his family being pissed he wasn’t a starter after the Notre Dame Game. I wonder if that’s what the determining factor was if this rumor is true

This rumor just seems very odd. Like why would his mom announce her son is leaving program on Facebook before he announces it to anyone? Can anyone get the text from his mom's post?
