James Hudson's Ballz Are All Over The Place

Submitted by MaizeMN on
Stopped over to 247 to see what's up with crootin and I see 4 CBs for Hudson flipped back to Sparty and 1 more listed as foggy. Our very own, Ace has flipped twice in the last 24 hrs on his prediction. Anyone have any info on Mr. Hudson's turbulent ballz? Ace? Magnus? BK Finest? ANYBODY? On a better note, I see a CB for Darnay Holmes to MICHIGAN,so that is encouraging.

But I am curious about what would cause these pundits to flip flop on predictions, when they usually reserve the prediction until their level of confidence in its veracity is high. Ace, for example, has been reticent to make early predictions and even less prone to flip on the prediction, once made.

I'd say he's a pretty holy lock to Sparty. If Lorenz, Wiltfong and Ace are all saying Sparty after a day he was on our campus, they know something. It will be interesting to hear that story.

I cannot disagree with your take on our need for players at these positions, and I must admit to not knowing too much about the young man. It is my understanding he does, however, have a decent offer sheet. Appears to be one of those whose offers belie his ranking.

My disagreement comes from Harbaugh's known policy against taking players just to fill roster spots. One only need look back at Swenson to gain knowledge that Harbaugh does not want a player until he has had sufficient time to view and evaluate. He was one of the top rated at his position, yet J.H., by his actions, sent notice he would not extend an offer until he was personally satisfied. This is where I disagree. If the staff wants him then I would have to assume they consider him a decent fit for the meritocracy that is the Michigan program because they refuse to use the band-aid approach, and I am thankful for that.

I totally disagree. I would take Hudson over Irving-Bey. I saw a bit more from Hudson on his tape, I just wish he were a bit more explosive (if he were he'd probably be a 4 star). I think if you get him in our S/C program he might look a be better and be a nice option at 3T/SDE. I didn't really see anything special with DIB's tape. 90% of the plays look like a product of bad competition. A OL would stand straight of and just stick his arms out or step the wrong way or forget to block him. It was like he was playing against the worst of Kalis every snap. You can really get a good read on him shedding contact and he doesn't look overly athletic. I'd love to hear other people's opinions though.

Just like with Hudson, I know little about this young man and, only after being inspired by you to do so, did I take a look at his tape. It was a very small screen but I was able to discern that you were correct about the competition he was facing. It was bad.

However, and it's important whether you are scouting a top 10 player or a top 400, unless you are facing a Jake Long, Taylor Lewan, you must dominate the competition across from you to be looked at further. This he did. And I saw a BIG caliber player. I really don't like watching tape that often and looked at our opponents because it was my job.

What I saw from I-B was a good sized, strong DT with an explosive first step, well above average strength and mobility. When you are able to knock a 260-270 OT on his ass, with only two yards of momentum you are looking at a young man who is both strong and quick. You do not do this either if your pad level is not correct.  Most players his age need to improve strength and he is no exception. However, it is not difficult to determine the young man is well above average in this deptartment as well. His mobility is well above average and is demonstrated on more than a few occasions as proven in his ability to catch runners from both the back side and from a lateral pursuit.

I think his upside is good and like I said, he is definitely P5, BIG caliber that will be a two year starter wherever he lands.

Hudson and Irving Bey seem almost identical in size and ability. They seem to be flip flopped in some of the rankings. Irving Bey seems to me to be a little more quick and instinctive. When you consider how many spots are left and our interest in Tufele I am sure some interesting conversations are happening behind closed doors. I would be interested in some our film reviewers opinions between Hudson and Irving Bey.

Hudson tweeted during his visit that he would announce Monday. Everyone assumed that meant to Michigan because that's what usually happens when recruits make that kind of tweet during a visit. None of the writers could talk to him or anyone else there until the visits were over. Once they did, it was clear where he's headed.

is from the same OSU guy that put his in for Harris to go blue. Either he is trolling hard, or I am rooting for a Buckeye to be correct about something..... hold me TomVH.

I'm kind of ambivalent about Hudson, I don't really see him as that big of a get.  Is he really that good, or just one of the few DT's on the board for us?  He was committed to Kentucky before Harbaugh offered, and doesn't seem to have an awesome offer sheet.  What am I missing?  I'm onboard with the guy should his ballz stay blue - Harbaugh, and all...  I'm just wondering where all the angst comes from about his decision?

...and more curious about the circumstances behind the prediction flip flopping. Is it a case of disrespekt, as postulated earlier in the thread? Did he want to commit and the staff has cooled on him? Yesterday 11 CBs went in for UM, including Ace and Lorenz. Today, a reversal. What gives?

it does make perfect sense. I was not aware of all the CBs yesterday in favor of the good guys. If such is the case then it would almost have to be something of this nature. However, given the age of the young men that attended today, it could just as easily be a misread on his part and if such is not the case I am certain it will be addressed ASAP. Word gets around fast and this staff is too good to let a misunderstanding be the deciding factor.

That's a good characterization.  He'll be a solid rotation guy who will play 4 years and be progressively better each year he's on campus, sniff some honorable mention/2nd-team conefrence honors later in his career if the depth chart sorts out a certain way.

He's talented (top 250 player), but seeing this as some epic MSU-UM battle for an elite Ohio prospect (as I've seen pop up on twitter a bit) seems like a stretch.

No, as others have said, Webb has been emphatic that he's a take.  That's backed up by mgofish, who says the coaches were all over him yesterday

Looks like Lorenz has the scoop.  If it doesn't come out today, Sam will probably have the info on his recruiting round up on Monday.  Meanwhile mgofish has a nice review of the day at that link

Yeah, interesting. Earlier in the summer, when Hudson said he was going to announce his commitment soon, everyone figured it was for MSU and there was a lot of talk that UM didn't have him as a take.

Then, just about immediately, Sam Webb was out there saying that Hudson emphatically WAS a take. He went so far as to say if you read otherwise on another site, then that other site was just plain wrong. Sam made a couple of statements about it, iirc.

I thought at the time wow, Sam is really being direct and forceful about this one. My opinion was, and still is, that someone from the program got on the phone and told Sam exactly what to say.

Certainly could be wrong. But if true, and given this weekend's ballz flip-flopping, my best guess is that we would like to find room for Hudson in order to keep him away from Sparty. Not entirely for that reason, but maybe in large part.

Just an idea; could be wrong. I would love it if he committed to UM and turned into the next Suh.
