Submitted by MichiganMan_24_ on
Since i live in Ohio i cant help but see what goes on in Buck news ... Jamel Turner 5* DE formerly of Ursuline HS ..he was deemed ineligible to attend Ursuline .. and also ineligible to attend any Ohio HS .. he will go to a Military Academy in PA and will still most likely attend OSU .. So he can attend OSU but JUSTIN Turner who has a good GPA and test scores except for 1 may not qualify .. somebody help me understand.

That's nice, but since he's a 2010 recruit he's yet to deal with the clearinghouse. There is no guarantee he'll be eligible to play. The question was "How is he eligible to go to OSU if he isn't eligible for High School?" The answer is that OSU (and Michigan, for that matter) can let in whoever they want.

OK, but they don't really compare. One needs to pass a rigid standardization. The other you are only saying is accepted into OSU, which doesn't mean shit without the clearinghouse. I understand the gist, I'm just saying it's a hard comparison. On another note I try not to remark on player's intelligence after Slocum, but LaTwan seems like he could be that stupid as well. I got negged for saying it last time, but every story I have heard about him points towards SPED.

You're missing my point. A GED is the functional equivalent of a diploma. It literally means "Graduate Equivalency Degree" - in other words, it his equivalent to graduating. So, back to what I said - you have to graduate High School.

Your first point merely said that schools could admit anyone they want. That's a general point. I said it wasn't true - the kid had to graduate (and yes, a Graduate Equivalency exam is equivalent to graduating).

I know .. but i can pimp slap a teacher and tell the principal to stick it up his candy ass as i drive through the schoolyard smashing beer bottles on my classmates cars ... then say im sorry and still get in But if i am a good kid and have trouble passing a science proficiency test .. i cant get in ... BS

The objection would be: -Kid A makes one bad decision and acts out, but even after apologizing and showing his remorse he can't get into college. -Kid B shows that he's a slacker by not putting the effort in to pass one stupid test, and he's getting in no sweat! What gives!

In all honesty .. No ... a kid who has several chances to behave and still ends up in trouble to the point he is being kicked out of a school .. i dont feel bad for A kid who gets good grades and has trouble with testing (as i myself did) i do feel bad for. I hope Jamel turns it around but i feel like behavior issues are not as important as they should be when being accepted into college to play football.

I don't buy the "Well, he's just a poor test taker" bullshit, either. Supposedly, Turner has good grades and an acceptable ACT score. Obviously, test taking isn't too much of a problem for him. The fact that he is rumored to have a problem passing only one portion of this standardized test (Science?) leads me to believe that he has little interest in that subject and probably didn't give a fuck about it until it was (almost) too late.

College acceptance isn't a referendum on someone's moral fiber. It's just not. The Ohio State Graduation Test is a requirement to graduate High School in the state. If a student can't pass it, they can't graduate. If they can't graduate high school, they're ineligible for college. Simple, right? Jamel Turner seems as if he may not graduate High School for reasons other than academics or test scores. If he does not graduate, Ohio State will not be able to let him in. This isn't a matter of favortism or anything else. You can be a horrible person and graduate High School. You can be a wonderful person and fail. The relative quality of character is not relevant. Finally, as someone who knows neither Justin nor Jamel Turner, and knows virtually nothing of one (Justin) and only internet messageboad gossip of another (Jamel), I hesitate to leap to any conclusions regarding either's character.

I don't know what this kid may have done to get kicked out, but do you really want college turning kids down for being a-holes? That seems like a slippery slope. Test scores are at least somewhat indicative of mental capacity, and while it's possible to be smart and fail or vice versa, if your test scores are so bad you can't get into college, chances are you won't handle college classes much better. There's no reason a kid without a disability shouldn't be able to get a sufficient score on the required tests to get into college.

I just want to know how Jamal Berry has a felony dismissed. Felonies do not just disappear, at least just plea to a misdemeanor, but having a felony disappear is ludicrous.
