Why do so many people think we "do no need" Ryan for PSU.  Nothing is a given.  I dont want to rush him back either but PSU at home with a stud QB -freshman or otherwise - who will face little pash rush and has some nice WRs means we need all the talent we can get.  If we had a legit pass rush I'd agree - Mattison can scheme all he wants but all trickery goes away if you have 4 seconds to throw a ball.  Akron's QB looked like Joe Montana in the 2nd half since he was able to take coffee breaks back there.

The couch coach here says I would like a ramp up in his playing time to be ready for a full game in November, where he would add the most value to the challenging schedule.

I don't think there is any question whether or not he's going to play this week.  My biggest question is at what position and for how many snaps.  Do you work him in with Brennan Beyer and rotate snaps at SAM?  Or, maybe give Ryan some snaps at WDE and pull Frank Clark instead?  In my opinion, Beyer needs to stay on the field, and that eventually he should move back to WDE and send Clark to the 2nd team.  That probably won't happen this week, but I think that gets the best 11 on the field.

Disclosure - I'm not a coach ;)

I'd put Beyer down on the line replacing either Clark or Heitzman.  Not necessarily Clark per se - he gets tough love on here for valid reasons because expectations are higher for him than Heitzman.  That does not mean Clark < Heitzman.  I don't know which one adds more value - at least Heitzman got a sack last week versus a Big 10 lineman but I dont recall his name being called much prior in earlier games.   Jake than goes to his normal LB position.

On obvious passing downs I am at the point I'd put Beyer and Ryan as the D-ends.  You will be playing a nickel package so 2 LBs are are all that is necessary.  Anyhow we need help at the DEs one way or the other , and Beyer should be getting a chance.  I am not expecting a world beater performance from Beyer either - much of his splash plays on the line have come against bad competition... but that is more than a lot of his peers have done on the DL.

it takes about a year to fully recover from an ACL.  Jake will be back and will be great...in 2014.  He'll be okay this year, but it takes awhile to get the speed back...just watch RGIII this year, he's not exactly running a 4.5 40 right now.  Yeah, I'm downer, I suck...

but I'm not in the know. obviously. just feel like another week and a half would do some good. then one more game to get his bearings, bye to watch state film, and then it becomes time to go hunting for a species known as "Connor cook"

I don't get all the people talking about Jake coming back for PSU. He played against Minnesota, at least the announcers made it seem like he was all over the field!
