As I was perusing the Spring Commencement program over coffee I noticed a few names of note. "We ain't come to play school" doesn't apply to most of our student athletes.

Rudock received a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology. Maybe med school is still in his future after his clipboard days as a Lion are over.

Jeff Tambellini  received a BA in  Sport Management and Communications on track for asst. coach or front office position. 12 yrs. in the NHL and so close to his name on the cup with Vancouver.

Adam Coon  All-American wrestler but also a rocket scientist with a master in Space Engineering (4.0 GPA was mentioned on senior night).

First name in the program after the PHD candidates with a BA in General Studies was Muhammed-Ali Abdur-Rahkman. He's first on my list of graduating ballers. (Oldest college gets listed first--LSA, and first department is --General Studies, and Abdur is first for obvious reasons).

With Tom Waits crooning over his piano in the background. I got my degree from UM over 40 years ago and it proved to be a great investment in myself. All degrees from reputable schools are, really, but I’m grateful for having got my union card from Michigan. Best wishes to all the graduates this year.

Over 40 years ago? Me too, though when I start counting I realize it was over 50. Scary thought, but may I echo your sentiments. I hope the grads are able to look back as fondly of their UM experience as I do. Like the 1965 edition (with Cazzie Russell), this year's basketball team made it to the championship finals where they lost. The 1964-65 football team did much better than this year's, but hope for a better season next year remains strong.
