Jacob Fisher decommits for now
This is not good news. Fisher is a huge deal for this class. Hoke needs to find a way to keep him in this class. While this may just be semantics (since he's visiting other schools, he's not committed), I'm thinking that his mind changed this weekend.
The competition looks stiff: Oregon, Florida, Michigan State. Fisher visited State this weekend and had good things to say about it.
I honestly believe that Fisher should be target #1 for this team right now. He is that important. In fact, he is our only pure Tackle in this class (Posada likely a guard, and if Bryant comes, a Guard too).

Teach a Hoke how to recruit a Fisher he'll have OLs for a career

I wonder how the Michigan Poetry Team is doing this year. Will they make a good bowl game or will they be doomed to the Little Predicates Haiku Bowl?
January 16th, 2011 at 2:54 PM ^
Rivals.com has him listed as a soft verbal
January 16th, 2011 at 3:44 PM ^
I heard that they are looking at bringing a "mystery" 3* Quatrainist recruit up next weekend. True sleeper, great pad level.
January 16th, 2011 at 5:15 PM ^
He's got real potential for coupling and his iambic pentameter is very advanced for being a senior in HS
January 16th, 2011 at 3:03 PM ^
FWIW, He says that he has spoken to Hoke and OL Coach. He is not committed to Michigan, but they are still very much in it. He says all four schools are equal.
Buzz on MSU site from Mod that conducted interview is that he will still end up Blue.
We'll see. His parents did go on the trip to MSU which shows he at least took the trip seriously.
January 16th, 2011 at 6:02 PM ^
Josh Helmholdt has said that he was very close to Frey and that is the main reason he decommited in the first place. At this point I feel like he is very open but it is never a good sign that the guy decommited 3 weeks before signing day. We will see.

Jake seems to love M. But he doesn't even know who the DC will be. So why not check out contingencies in the meantime? This week, hopefully, a new coordinator will smooth things over.
January 16th, 2011 at 3:17 PM ^
...offensive (more specifically Tackle), I'm not sure how knowing the DC effects that as we already have the OC and the OL coach in place.
January 16th, 2011 at 6:49 PM ^
We do have our OC, and Sparty doesn't (I think Treadwell was OC). And If he goes to MSU, I cant wish him good luck. It makes more sense just to stay committed to UM.
January 16th, 2011 at 3:08 PM ^
I am sorry, but if he eventually commits to State I will not be able to wish him luck. Hopefully Hoke can do some damage control.
January 16th, 2011 at 4:58 PM ^
they you take this all way too seriously
January 16th, 2011 at 3:15 PM ^
As I read this I had leonard neemoy's voice saying it in my head like in Civ 4.
January 16th, 2011 at 2:45 PM ^
Negged for double post.
January 16th, 2011 at 2:51 PM ^
I understand the reason behind them but in this case he obviously was writing the post at the same time the other guy was and along comes Rule Nazi. It's an online sports blog for crissake!

Negged for not reading the OT: Wasting your time Thread.

Negged for unnecessary capitalization.

No explanation will be given.

Very disappointing, He is a good player at a position of need. Hope we can get him back!

January 16th, 2011 at 2:50 PM ^
hopefully we can get him back, great looking prospect at a position of need. hopefully we can get him on campus again and Hoke can show him the he is wanted MORE on campus now than before, we need this kid. GO BLUE JAKE!!

OL is the greatest area of recruiting need. The position group currently has only 3 underclasmen going into next season. After all the upperclassmen graduate in the next two seasons, the OL will have to rely on very young players. This class is the key to avoiding putting raw freshman on the field.
January 16th, 2011 at 2:51 PM ^
Well, fuck.
January 16th, 2011 at 2:51 PM ^
Well, I guess DB was right when he said getting the right coach was bigger than this recruiting class, way to go DB.
January 16th, 2011 at 3:02 PM ^
Countess, Posada, and Jones as soft verbals that are not counted in that total as they are currently on visits or have visits planned.
January 16th, 2011 at 3:32 PM ^
This is shaping up to the worst recruiting class in decades for Michigan. Maybe Brandon knew what he was talking about when he said he wanted the ball boys to be defensive minded -- we may need them to play in a few years.
January 16th, 2011 at 2:52 PM ^
that's another guard. We seem to be guard-heavy now but lack Tackles. Luckily, our starting tackles next year might both only be sophmores.
January 16th, 2011 at 2:52 PM ^
Several decommits and signing period just around the corner. Have to becareful though don't want to be to so negative that I might be considered a closet OSU fan!
January 16th, 2011 at 2:56 PM ^
If you commit, you might be starting sooner than you think.
January 16th, 2011 at 2:58 PM ^
Chris Bryant is coming into Ann Arbor to meet Coach Hoke today.
There might be a surprise in the very near future.
January 16th, 2011 at 2:59 PM ^
*sarcasm on*
We can't have positive news,, everyone knows that Brandon and Hoke are the death of the program. Besides, everyone knows from that early M Go Board post that Bryant is a lock for Pittsburgh because they have Magee and Frey
*/sarcasm off*
January 16th, 2011 at 3:15 PM ^
that would be excellent news. Come on down CB!
January 16th, 2011 at 8:40 PM ^
the surprise would be Bryant not committing to us since he was one of the silents.
January 16th, 2011 at 2:57 PM ^
...is that recruiting is 70% of modern college football (if you have the recruiting you'll win unless you are incompetent like Fat Charlie was at ND, heck Bobby Bowden's success in his last 5 years was pretty much entirely built on recruiting) and that the last 2 months are *the* most important time. Brandon was from the fossilized 70s when things like this weren't as important, his failure to understand college football will hurt Michigan for years to come, and screwed Brady Hoke, a good man who didn't deserve this situation.
January 16th, 2011 at 3:05 PM ^
And unfortunately the same could be said for Rich Rod. When you start more freshmen than any other team in the BigTen (probably NCAA too!) on defense, you're bound for some trouble. These gaps in recruiting will and are hurting us.
January 16th, 2011 at 3:09 PM ^
...a massive attrition and a decision not to slow the implementation of his scheme. That's something that Brady Hoke appears to be avoiding, though the recruiting issue is still there for him as it was for Rich Rod.
January 16th, 2011 at 3:23 PM ^
The team is so young pretty much everywhere that this recruiting class blow can be taken, and can recover with next year's class.
January 16th, 2011 at 3:37 PM ^
Our 2012 schedule is brutal, and will be the last year for the majority of the young players we have now. The year the problem will surface is in 2013, which as we've just seen is the put-up-or-shut-up year around here for coaches. So if Hoke posts lackluster 7-5'ish records the next two seasons, the lack of any sort of upperclass talent in 2013 is going to be rough for him and the program.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:44 PM ^
on O when RR took over. Why would you not implement your scheme when that is what you were brought here for? Brady Hoke has almost his whole offense returning(team for that matter) including the Big Ten O MVP and would be an idiot to blow it up.
January 16th, 2011 at 5:32 PM ^
what proof do you have that each of the kids who have decommitted wouldn't have simply based on the fired coach, regardless of when the new coach was hired? everybody acts like the process killed them when there's way more evidence they have left because of a coaching staff change.
January 16th, 2011 at 7:24 PM ^
Hoke could have recovered with some new recruits if given time. Now it's just a lost cause.
January 16th, 2011 at 3:01 PM ^
Looks like the recruits we have (verbals) aren't real thrilled with Brady Hoke.
January 16th, 2011 at 3:05 PM ^
Jeez. Take a breath. Decommits are inevitable in a cc. So are new commits. Give the guy at least a week, for crissake.
January 16th, 2011 at 3:11 PM ^
By the time we take a breath, this will be the worst recruiting class in history. This is a small class and we can't afford to lose 1, let alone 2 or 3.
January 16th, 2011 at 3:32 PM ^
You should write a letter to Coach Hoke explaining this.
I'm sure this hasn't even crossed his mind yet.
January 16th, 2011 at 3:32 PM ^
And I don't see anything being done about it, do you?
January 16th, 2011 at 3:36 PM ^
It hasn't been a week yet since he was hired. Let him finish talking to the players on the team and getting his staff. I will start to panic if next weekend's recruiting activities are canceled.
I am more concerned about the staff not being set yet.
January 16th, 2011 at 7:26 PM ^
So no one is allowed to discuss it?
January 16th, 2011 at 3:28 PM ^
Then you might as well put yourself out of your misery now. Everyone knew the cc would cause attrition. DB all but guaranteed it. Did you really expect otherwise? Have you not witnessed other ccs? There's no way that all commits will be equally compatible/comfortable with the new coach. JH and Les would have lost a couple commits, too, believe it or not.
