It can't get worse-or can it?

I have seen several comments to the effect of, "It can't get worse." I would submit it can. Given all of our advantages it shouldn't, but it can. What if we can't get our guy and make a Kiffen-esque mistake a la Tennessee? What if Hackett turns out to be Brandon 2.0, but Shclissel retains confidence in him for too long? We HAVE to get our next coaching hire right, because selfishly I am not sure I can take another 7 years like we have just endured...BUT WORSE!!!! This is what keeps me up at night.

The last time Michigan had a higher ranked recruiting class than Florida was 2005. It is probably splitting hairs but Florida has been pretty damn loaded prior to and during Muschamp's regime. Michigan's roster is not bereft of talent though and any new coach will not have any excuses about an empty cupboard. Maybe at QB and that's a big maybe because I don't think anyone knows what we have in Shane since he's never had competent coaching.

Yep, Freddy Canteen and Devin Funchess have definitely proven they're the envy of every elite program in the country. Wisconsin would trade Melvin Gordon for Derrick Green in a heartbeat. Oregon would gladly give up Jake Fisher if it meant they could snag Kyle Kalis. MSU is still cursing themselves for having Shilique Calhoun instead of Ojemudia or Charlton.

But at the end of the day, I have a two degrees from a top25 university, and completed residency at a world-class institution (UMH).

Unfortunately, have already gotten shit from coworkers, and will be getting a shovelfull of crap from patients Monday.  Oh to be the only Michigan physician in my practice in Maryland :(

Old Hopslam was good.  Onto wine.  Four Rose single barrel looks pretty delicous atm.

Job security has never been an issue for either of us (I did my fellowship at Cleveland Clinic, Mrs/Dr gopoohgo was on staff at CCF).

Pulled the trigger on a house in Howard County, MD a few years ago.  While the DC area does not have a equivalent to Napa, proximity to family (cousins, in-laws) along the eastern seabord is too good to pass up.

I really like the area.   2.5 hour drive to the Delaware beaches,5-6 hour drive to the Outer Banks, and direct flights to everywhere via Dulles is not a bad life :)

Michigan would have to actively try to do worse.  There are so many coaches who could take our talent to more than 5 wins. Unless we hire another bad coach from the MAC, it's very likely we can turn this thing around.

If the University decides on a budget coach who has a .500 record in some small conference! Or if they let Hoke play his last year to save the $.

I'm hoping this will never happen. I hope we pay enough to get the best available coach!

For one thing, they know that if they did that, they'd have to start raffling off you-must-be-present-to-win trips to Vegas to fill the stadium, and more importantly, the fat cat donors wouldn't allow it. At least, that's what I'm telling myself.

Yes, it can get worse starting next Saturday.  Then we can miss on the coaching hire this program needs to turn this around, then we could be doomed to several more years of bad football during which our rivals are dominating us and the greatness of our football program becomes a more and more distant memory.

Because I would sure hate to read a post from you that said after another decade of living, growing and maturing, you still don't realize as a fan that football is a game and has ZERO importance in the grand scheme of things and that pouting and throwing tantrums over the outcomes of games is for kids and not adults.

My main issue with the Hoke regime is not that it has been bad, but that it is not entertaining. I watch football to be entertained and feel connected to my alma mater. Dave Brandon effectively detached me from that connection and Brady Hoke's terrible brand of weaponized bland football makes it virtually impossible to watch. Even the mistakes the team and coaches makes are less enjoyable than the yakety sax type shit we frequently got with RichRod. If they're gonna be terrible at least make me chuckle dammit.

the entertainment comes from watching well-executed plays by talented players that you have some connection to, and therefore some reason to care about they way they perform, and the outcome of the game. Being a grad, I've had that connection for decades, but the last two seasons, with a few exceptions, M football has been painful to watch because there were far too few well-executed plays. (Just ask Hoke!) I saw only part of the game yesterday, and stopped watching when it became painfully clear that the dropped passes and inability to score TDs in the red zone were the mean, not an aberration that would be eclipsed by superior play. I thought to myself that even if M doesn't win, at least I could watch some good plays by all of the talent we've recruited. Far too little of that to make watching entertaining. Contrast that with MBB - they had a difficult first half against UD (they have a very young team, you know), but came back in the second half - you knew they would. Now, that's fun to watch.
