It's Thursday. That means Brian on WTKA at 9 am.

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

I'm not going to do this every week, but it usually takes like 2 weeks for people to get used to schedules starting back up, so just a quick reminder he's on in about an hour.

Oh, and Inside Michigan Football starts Monday at 6:30 pm on FSD (and rerun a million times elsewhere after), so don't forget that either.

Zinging the BTN all over the place.

Edit:

Brian with a bold claim, saying 2008 offense wouldn't have been any better if they stayed with a pro-style offense.  Not way to prove it either way, but I'm not sure I agree.

I agree/disagree

Could of pulled off 7-6 with the O-line gelling towards the end of the year with a slow implementation of Spread football. M had TE and some D. Not the shock and awe of scraping everything.

B. Minor, C. Brown, G. Mathews, C. Butler, M. Massey.

T. Jamison, B. Graham, Will Johnson, T. Taylor, M Trent, D. Warren.

ND and the 58 turnovers. 4-8

Fucking Toledo. 5-7

Purdue and the onside kicks. 6-6

NU ????? 7-6.

It hurts to think of it and don't want to start a war with the spread guys.  Will never know but form changing from apples to oranges was a bitch.

I think Brian is wrong solely b/c of Toledo.  I think if we line up and jam it down their throats the whole game we score another touchdown or two.

There is an argument to be made for the other games you mention as well, but I don't think it is as cut and dry.

Do we beat Wisconsin by jamming it down their throats?

We were sticking to a scheme because we could have hopefully beat Toledo?   If Threet doesn't throw that pass we win regardless of scheme.

Bowl streaks are nice, but you know what  if we were in the offense we used against Florida we would have beat App St.   What about the streak of never losing to and 1-AA team?

We lost in 09 because of a lack of talent, experience and internal fighting.  Scheme had very little to do with anything that year.

There was no streak. There is one now...2 in a row, wins.

Now all the streaks to go down with the bowl one the last three years....how much time do you have....?

The Oline sucked balls.  They were not gelling at any point with any scheme.  Most of those players you listed were hurt so they didn't play.  It's nice revisionist history to say we had B. Minor, but he wasn't playing that much due to injury.

The real point is that who really gives a shit if we were 3-9 or 5-7 or 7-5.   All those records suck

To me you are either working toward a Big Ten Championship or who cares.

That's a good line, but you already said you were a Carr guy so no matter what happened you were against the spread so you'll slant what happened to fit your argument.

That team could have gone 7-6 regardless of scheme.  If they were all on the same page.  They were not so no scheme would have saved them.

I'm not going to start poo pooing with ya friend. I guess I'm trying to say is that year the spread should have been a tool in the tool box, not the only tool. Again we'll never know.

There doing it right on not using round peg square hole. Georges George even said something along the lines of playing to our strengths and trending towards power football. I would love to see a perfect blend even though I'm from the Lloyd school of football.

It's a little gloomy listening to these guys talk about the team, but I like getting any info I can. Even though our depth at D-line isn't great, I still think this defense will be much improved. It will hurt us against the really physical teams like OSU, MSU, Wisc, and Neb. The rest of the year shouldn't be so bad, and if you think about it, we just need to put enough points on the board in the first half that the other team can't pound the ball up the middle into the 4th quarter to keep up. The second half is really when depth takes a toll on teams, so this year will be all about going into halftime with a lead.

Big 10 Network preview was lame overall.  Borges talking about doing what's best for Denard.  DiNardo thinks offense will be a lot like last year's.  Talk about how quickly the offense is being installed (compared to when RR came) and the need to instantly install it or not

First caller was about BWC,  RVB back to 3-tech.  Brink = JJ Watt?  Didn't beat out scholarship players, no depth at SDE.  Redshirt BWC and switch back to OL?  Seven OL in 2012 class?  Talk about the expected starting DL, with Black starting until Roh gets healthy.

Attrition.  Posada no suprise given incoming weight.  Stokes was disappointing since he was a 4-star, but not overly damaging.  Barnett leaving is "terrible"; depth issues.  Third TE in 2012?  Brain wants more OL and DT (I think he said a 3rd DT beyond O'Brien), over WR.  Brian expects two more to leave by signing day, with some firm handshakes to 5th years.  Could be 28 in the 2012 class.

Craig thinking Desmond Morgan starting WILL.  Tom Gordon or JT Floyd at nickelback?  Maybe Countess.  Nate Brink talk wasn't motivational, probably true.  Talking about BWC maybe first backup at 3-tech.  Brian thinks Avery across from Woolfolk.

First call.  Will defense be "fair?"  Brian thinking defense will be significantly better.  Won't be a one-year miracle turnaround, though.  Offense not far off.  Could add up to 9-3.

Would 5 or 10 wins be more suprising?  Brian: 10.  Ira: 5.  Ira thinking no way they don't win 6.  Brian says 5 wins possible if Denard gets injured.  Ira not believing ND hype.  Coaching staff concerned about SDSU; could be "fascinating" game with SDSU's 3-3-5, seeing a 3-3-5 properly run.  3-3-5 not a 3-man front; 4-3 but you don't know who the 4th is.  Talk about hiring GERG gives Brian a migrane.

and gloom. You could hear in Brian's voice that he's not sold on this year, or next. I would offer that the line-ups we see in week one will be different than week two. IME, this staff is doing a lot of posturing and leaving us all to guess about what's going on. Couple that with the fact that nothing of any real substance is leaking out of camp, and this leads to wild speculation and anxiety. Should be a fun couple of weeks. We'll be fine.
