I know a lot of folks around here view Lloyd with a bit of resentment (for various reasons), but I think he was a very good coach and is a great representative for UM athletics. So, congrats Lloyd!

In my opinion "resentment" isn't what it is - I think people criticize Carr for some of his moves/handling of issues. It's not black and white. I'm sure plenty of the people who are crticial about certain things of Carr still respect him and want to see him have success like this.

Overall, he was a good coach and a good representative of Michigan football, even if in my opinion I wanted something to happen differently at some point in time (e.g., late career recruiting).

In my own experience, the one time I met him (very short) he was very nice to me, so that's good.

Well deserved. Carr has remained in tune with college athletics and the current landscape. He's not just some old former coach who knew the game "how it was way back when." He's an awesome addition to that committee. Congrats to Coach Carr!

For a good bit after retiring (and not just the Assoc AD stint Bando references below).

He's been involved with a number of committees with Michigan athletics or B1G athletics. He's worked with various Michigan coaches from an advisory standpoint (not supervisor, but advice...)

He still has plenty of working relationships in college football. Speeches and apperances. He's shown attendance and Michigan basketball pretty regularly. Softball. Field Hockey.

A culmination of all of those things. Some weight more than others.

My point was that he didn't go away in 2008 to some vacation home and sit there for 8 years until now. He knows what's going on in college athletics and in particular college football. I think having someone like that versus "a name" who basically left the sport 8 years ago and decided now he wanted to be involved is a plus.

You're calling going to basketball, softball, and field hockey games staying involved in football? Giving speeches and doing appearances, too? All of those things you mentioned have nothing to do with football.

In short, he did basically leave the sport 8 years ago and decide he wanted to be involved again.

I'm not saying he shouldn't be on the committee, but I'm really not following your point here. This is the College Football Playoff Committee, not the "has attended other sporting events" Committee.

Thanks folks.

Soooooo that doesn't make any sense (nothing against the three people that responded or the original poster on the board who said this. It's more of a bash on the NCAA...add it to the list, I guess). How the hell is the "solution" to avoid COI for someone to just leave the room when discussing that specific team, when the whole point of being there is to RANK all of the teams. By definition, ranking means each school is compared to the others. So, for this solution to actually be valid, Lloyd (in this example) should not only dismiss himself when Michigan comes up, but any other team that could be viewed as potentially having a similar ranking. The conflict of interest for Lloyd doesn't stop when addressing only Michigan--it includes all other teams in a similar grouping. At that point, where do you draw the line? The entire committee would be up and down the whole meeting and the actual rankings would be completely disjointed.

Everyone should just put their big boy (or girl) pants on and be mature about their input. If anything, I can see this working against the team in question as the committee member would probably overcompensate for fear of appearing biased.

Jokes aside, I do think Carr is a pretty good addition to the committee and someone who can provide some very good input as well, in my opinion. Quite correctly, this comes on the heels of Tom Osborne leaving the committee, so it is less likely that I'll sit there still wondering how Nebraska was at the top of a particular Coaches' Poll.

Congrats to coach Carr! I will always love coach Carr, especially because when I attended his football camps he actually spent time talking/coaching me up even though I was a nobody.

Former CMU HC and Michigan assistant (remember he was a volunteer coach under LC) Herb D. made the committee too.
