Not just that, he did it better than everybody else. In all seriousness, I don't remember noticing him, but for Ambry Thomas (strip & recovery) to not get special teams player of the game he must have done some good stuff.

I was shocked Bush wasn't tossed after that hit. And IIRC we lost him at least once last year to a targetting penalty too. I love that the dude is a missile, but he needs to lock onto the rib cage and not the other dudes helmet or he's going to miss a lot of game time

I am shocked that people could in any way find Bush's "hit" o be targeting.  Bush was clearly trying to avoid the collision, not tackel; he didn't have his arms extended and, in fact, was just in the way as Cleveland was going down. The late hit was a fair call, since he didn't do enough to avoid contact, but targeting would have been an obviously bullshit call.

Your argument that Bush lock's on to other players' helmets is hysterical.  Maybe you should actually watch the plays and not just assume things.

See, I don't have the same apprehension - I think that's something that you easily fix in practice just by either having him go lower or peeling off altogether depending on where the receiver is. It's just making a quick observation of conditions. I mean, if it is even this complicated, which it doesn't seem like it is.

I don't see where, based on one game, we need to worry about him being someone who lives dangerously at the edge of a particular rule.

The Iowa targeting was BS - i dont even remember if it was targeting but i remember the call being a load of BS. This game we saw the same exact play from a Florida safety. I dont think its going to be something that occurs everygame or a character issue we need to worry about

It's not based on one game however. There were a couple of times last year that he led with his helmet (questionable at the very least). I love his game and ability but for his own safety, the safety of others and prevention of any costly penalties, he's got to get his eyes up a bit and hit below opponent's necks. Infrequent yes, and he looked and played great the rest of the game but it just takes that one time (hopefully avoidable).

Bush's aggressiveness vis-a-vis targeting is a concern, but I really hope the coaches rip into Perry for those stupid football spins he was doing. Does it, gets a really costly unsportsmanlike penalty, and then later on does it again (and I feel like if they had called it the second time he would have been ejected). Bush's aggressiveness is at least a double edged sword, but you can't take dumb unsportsmanlike penalties...

This summer in one of those silly over/under things I put him at over/under 11 games played because of this.

You could watch him last year and from all of the hype over the summer it's clear that he's at risk every time he steps on the field. But so is the opposing offense. It's a give and take we'll just have to live with.

I'll say this, I think Saturday was PERFECT for him. He couldn't have a bigger wake-up call than just that. 1st play, after a long, hard offseason, 1st real start? Top 20 opponent? Millions of eyes? That had to scare him a little bit into understanding how quickly it can all be gone.

Huge difference from this happening this week vs. Cincinnati with Air Force next up. That was soooo early in the game. I think it's one of those career changing moments. He's not going to play slower - it's not in his nature...but I think he's just more aware.

He had one last year that he probably should've been tossed on (special teams). That scare was better than any coach or film review...bad news for the rest of our opponents.

Rashan Gary's got more comp for B1G POY...and it's a guy lined up 5 yards behind him.

This has been my exact thought all weekend. I've been waiting for reactions to get posted. a win like this carries a lot of weight. especially how ESPN was on Florida's nuts all last week leading up to it. David Pollack and Pete can go jerk each other off.

On re-watch, Kugler playing so well is the biggest development from Saturday. He was really good. Unless UF's DTs are bad, this is a big upgrade to OL expectations for this year. Assumed he would be average, he was mich better than that Saturday. Some pancakes, and always seemed to have his man handled.

I know Ulizio wasn't the wall we all want at RT and even Cole had a bad miss, but I was nervous the OL was going to fold against a pretty good defensive line but they more than held their own. Great for game 1 and passed a tough test nicely. Lots to fix, no doubt but lots of good to build off of.

Brian is right about Bush being a heat seeking missile. i had so much fun watching him Saturday. it reminded me of the old days playing Mario Kart, when you shoot a red shell from across the map, and you see it lock on, and track its target until BAM!

From when you dominate another team.  Worth the wait to see Team 138 perform.  Only 4 more days until we see even more guys contribute to an undermatched team.
