Interesting recruting quote from 247s Steve Wiltfong (silent commits)

Submitted by Champeen on

Link to full article posted below.  Last line of article caught my attention.  2 silent verbals among that group?  My guess is Khalid Kareem and Ahmir Mitchell.  But any 2 of that group is pretty damn big news.

"Michigan will try and cook up a few more major recruiting wins before National Signing Day. Bredeson was the first win the staff really had to battle for. The other 14 were guys that already favored Michigan or the Wolverines staff evaluated and gave them their first big-time opportunity.

The nation's No. 1 recruit Rashan Gary is a big-time battle the Wolverines could definitely win.

Harbaugh and his staff are also fighing for blue-chippers like five-star linebacker Caleb Kelly, Top100 offensive guard Terrance Davis, Top100 defensive end Xavier Kelly, Top247 defensive end Khalid Kareem, Top100 linebacker Dontavious Jackson, tight end Naseir Upshur, Top247 offensive tackle Devery Hamilton, Devin Bush Jr., Ahmir Mitchell, Brad Hawkins, David Long and Top100 offensive tackle Jean Delance.

From this group, Michigan has already secured a couple of them, just waiting for the right time for it to go public."

Terrance Davis is almost certainly one; the guys at Scout have been dropping hints about him being a silent for a while now.  I think the other is likely to be Kareem since he announces next week, but certainly can't ignore the fact that Bush Jr. just visited and both Wiltfong and Lorenz put in CBs for him immediately after this article posted.

Are people still worried about Harbaugh's ability to recruit?  Guy's gonna land a top 5-10 class in his first year.  With monster recruiters like Durkin, Mattison, Wheatley, and Campbell it's almost a guarantee we're gonna get top 10 classes every year.

It becomes self-fulfilling.  As he starts to land the higher rated recruits this year, the recruiting services will bump up the ratings of the under-the-radar guys he already has committed.

This really could be a top 10 class for 2016 that started off as a bunch of no-name 2/3 stars.

Jim Harbaugh spins straw into gold right before our very eyes.

You're exactly right that every program 'fills in' their class with 3 and 2 star players.  The top programs in recruiting though usually load up on 4 and 5 star players.

Below are four of the better programs year in and year out with recruiting.  Shown are the number of 4 and 5 stars and the total number of recruits over the last 4 years:

Alabama:  17/26, 17/25, 19/26, 19/24.

OSU:  16/25, 18/24, 16/23, 14/27

USC:  13/15, 12/12, 11/19, 21/26

FSU:  13/19, 11/21, 16/28, 15/20

I think that we will get a decent amount of 4/5 stars for 2016.  I also think that a number of our 2/3 stars won't stay 2/3 stars by NSD.

They will trend up to 3/4 stars as the recruiting services start to see that Harbaugh knows what he is doing (and as other top P5 coaches see it as well and start to offer our sleeper 2/3 stars).

The Michigan thing helps so I agree to an extent, but I also think that people will put more value into Harbaugh's evaluation than Hoke's and RR's. But a Michigan offer, regardless of the coach, is something that catches the eye of other programs and recruiting services as well. I can agree with that.

I think if it's two from that list, then it is 4 total. My guess would be jackson and bush from the list. and if it is bush, i would say gil and the other teammate are also on board.
