Insufferable, super nice Bama fans

Submitted by yvgeni on

I'm having trouble coming to grips with my feelings for Bama fans.

We went to Dallas with 3 Alabam fans who couldn't have been cooler or more knowledgable in College football.  Every Bama fan we met leading up to the game was extroardinarly nice and egaging.  They all wanted to talk about the game and get our persepctive.  However, it always seemed like they were waiting for us to concede their superiority as much as wanting us to give them our thoughts.

During the game, we sat next to a dozen Bama fans who never once taunted or even looked our way whent things started going bad.  They only wanted to cheer for their team's success and really seemed to get no joy from our suffering.  One random Bama guy offered up his loaded nachos as a peace offering during the 2nd half.

When we were leaving with a few minutes left in the game, they all stood up to shake our hands, say "good game" and honestly wish us a safe trip.

However, it just doesn't feel right.  It was as if we were 7 year olds on the basketball court playing the grownup, and the grownup wouldn't take any satisfaction from beating the little kid.  I'm not even going to use the "little brother" analogy, but.....

Although they were super nice, it felt so condecending I can't reconcile my feelings of anger and appreciation.

You guys were wonderful fans so it goes both ways. It is easy to be nice to others who are nice. Watch UA with LSU or Auburn and it is different. UA with Ole Miss or Arkansas is like UA with UM.

BTW your QB is a beast. Look up his stats vs UA and then check out one Cam Newton's numbers vs UA in 2010. He did a wonderful job and he is going to be a short list candidate for Heisman.

Only 2 QBs in recent years passed 3 times for more than 15 yards. One was in orange and blue and the other was in Blue and Maize.

I watched the game with a bama fan friend and his family. They were super cool the whole time and very hospitable to me and my GF sporting UM gear.

what did piss me off though was a couple that also joined us in watching the game. One was an OSU fan dressed in Crimson Red and a bama hat taking every shot at UM he could, being a total douche (he told me his dad is from Alabama, making him a bama fan too....right). I wanted to punch him. After Denard's int for a TD he cackled and he looked at me and started to taunt me as I looked him stone faced in the eye and pointed saying "You don't say anything to me right now". He shut up pretty quick. His wife was lame too only cheering for bama b/c they were in the SEC (I live in Lexington, KY, where retard UK fans try to claim SEC dominace as their own, regardless of how much their team sucks ass/UK fans are pretty irritating). Those 2 plus the game itself made it pretty miserable. But the real bama fans were great people and great fans.

I know exactly what you're talking about: we shared a cab with an Alabama couple, and all they did was tell us how great we were, and that we'll go undefeated the rest of the way, and win the Big Ten.  I didn't know whether to feel conciliatory, or offended.
