Indiana Roll Call

Submitted by 1989 UM GRAD on

Despite last Saturday's result, I'm still looking forward to heading to Bloomington this weekend with my wife and half of my kids.

Before the game, we'll be accompanying our 11th grade son on a campus tour...as we are in the early stages of the process of visiting, exploring and considering various non-Michigan options.  (Yes, you can all look forward to seeing his commitment video about 15-18 months from now.)

Due to Indiana's homecoming (and last-minute planning), we aren't staying in Bloomington.  But, we are making lemonade out of lemons and staying in Columbus, IN, which we discovered is a mecca for mid-century modern architecture...which has become a passion for us.  We've been to many FLW homes and are excited to visit a Saarinen-designed one tomorrow in Columbus.

Plus, it looks as though we are going to have perfect weather this weekend!

Who is else is going to Bloomington?  What do you have planned?

Heading over there with Dad and my siblings for his birthday.  He said IU is the last traditional Big Ten stadium he hasn't been to.  Hopefully the four of us can bring home a W.  Just an in-and-out trip for us, as all of our SO's will be waiting at Mom's house prepping a fancy meal and bonfire for Saturday night.

Can anyone recommend a park area that allows for a quick trip out of town after the game?

after the game. I've been to IU twice and know others who have made the trip and drove immediately back to Michigan, and it's pretty much guaranteed you'll be stuck for awhile in traffic jams.

The combination of hilly Southern Indiana terrain, no nearby Interstate highways and road construction projects means your patience will be tested. Not Happy Valley bad, but pretty damn close.

Driving there tomorrow after work from Chicago. Booked a cheap-ish Airbnb back in July for Friday night, so should be able to do plenty in the morning before the game.

Really not sure what we'll do, but probably wake up as early as possible, go to one of the breakfast spots from the other post, then hit up the bars a little before and after the game. No rush to get back, so we'll probably wait for traffic to clear before heading back.

Heading there tomorrow afternoon with about 16 total people, young and not too old. Staying right in Bloomington about 5 miles from the stadium. Plan on getting up early, tailgating til game time, and watching our boys whoop some ass. Go Blue!

My brother-in-law is an IU fan, and we have some family in Bloomington. We all decided to take a long weekend and stay in some cabins around Brown County State Park, then head into Bloomington for the game. It's gonna be a great weekend, as long as our offense doesn't sludgefart its way to disaster.

I had been planning on going with my dad since we only live 1.5 hours away and that is always the easiest game for us to get to, but due to his recent travel schedule we decided not to go. We always enjoy that trip and seeing all of the UM fans take over the stadium, so everyone going have a good time! Go blue!

The other half of them are grounded? Way to rule with an iron fist, Dad!

As for the game, I've thought about it, but probably won't go. I wish it wasn't a noon game, as I'd have to make it a drive in/drive back and would have to be on the road by 5 am for the 4 1/2 hour drive to get there early enough to get some tailgating time.

Lots of parking space right next to the stadium if you like asphalt. When I went 2 years ago, we instead parked in a front yard 3 or 4 blocks away for just $20 and had a great time there, plenty of shade trees on a warm sunny fall day is a definite plus.

We had planned on our entire family of four going to the game.

Daughter is still on the Bar/Bat Mitzvah circuit...and didn't want to miss one to which she was invited this weekend.  "Daddy, I have FOMO!"

Fortunately, the parents of one of her friends generously offered to house her for the weekend.

Making the drive from Minnesota to Bloomington on Friday. Our AirBnB in Bloomington cancelled on us on Monday, so we had to resort to one in Indianapolis. Hopefully we will still be able to get in some tailgating on Saturday morning.

with wife & friends, one of whom is an IU grad. First visit to Bloomington. Will stop for lunch at the Nashville House on the way over & check out the bars Friday night. Saturday morning may crash a friend's son's frat party, then cheer the mighty Wolves to a big W!

I'll be there flying solo, no major plans since I have to be back in Terre Haute for a wedding by 5:15. Hopefully it's not the two OT game like it was 2 years ago!!

I'll be there. I live in town and am importing several Michigan friends. Tailgating on the grass lots is my preference but we'll be on the asphalt - right on top of the stadium - at 8:00AM.

She was raised maize & blue, but graduated fro the I.U. Law School and he is a graduate of the I.U. Kelly School of Business. The Bible says "raise up a child in the way they should go and even when they are old they will not turn from it". Here's hoping that sticks and she wears the correct colors.

Section 109, Row  18

I live in Southern Indiana and recommend the tailgating fields south of the stadium.  Great place to park, hangout and tailgate.

For an easy exit, head south to 3rd street, then head east to Hwy 46 to get back to I-65.

GO BLUE!

Take another look. If you hover over the construction icon on the indot page it actually expands out & shows you how far the construction zone spans.

It looks like it goes from Bloomington to halfway to Indianapolis.  I'm going to avoid it like the plague. I'll be taking The Chad's advice.
