Indiana People vs. Ohio People

Submitted by Firstbase on

SIAP, but here's an eyebrow-raising excerpt from Bob Wojnowski of The Detroit News comparing Indiana people to those from Ohio.

"Wolverines-Boilermakers is merely the opener in a huge one-day clash between the neighboring states of Michigan and Indiana, a friendly, respectful border rivalry. It doesn’t quite garner the attention of the Michigan-Ohio spat, largely because Indiana people are proud, simple folk, while Ohio people are dolts with horrific behavioral issues."

This is so real.  I would say at least half of the time you are on vacation somewhere and ask an obnoxious / rude group where they are from, it's Ohio.

Directly below this statement, "Ohio people are dolts with horrific behavioral issues," is this picture:

Someone at the News has a sense of humor, or irony, or something.

It's so true. Indiana people are so much better than us...they use John Deere, while we settle for International brand tractors. Their straw is less gritty in the teeth also.

Man, I wish I lived there.

I haven't been to Ohio Stadium, but I have been to Purdue (in 2012), and I'll say it was a bad experience; even the old ladies were rude.

I'll be heading to West Lafayette tomorrow, so I'll have to report back how much better/worse it is 5 years later.

Having spent a lot of time on the coasts..I don't think anyone there really thinks there's major, notable differences between Michiganders, Indianans (?) and Ohioans.

Of course, from a socio-political wonky point of view there are huge differences even within those states. NW Indiana is very different from Central Indiana which is again different from the counties on Indiana's Southern border. While in Michigan, SE Michigan is very different from the Grand Rapids region or the very SW tip while 'up North' is an entirely different beast altogether.. I don't want to waste time on describing Ohio.

10 months working mostly remotely for a company in Muncie, IN.  My business trips there are easily the most depressing time I've spent in my career by a factor of about 10.

Of course, some of that was just due to the company itself.  But hey, I was living in Ann Arbor at the time and they paid me a lot more than the going rate, so whatever.   Wouldn't do it again, but it worked for a few months.

The biggest question I came out of it with was, why does anyone voluntarily choose to live in Munice, IN?   Never did figure that one out.  Maybe some people like trains.

I have made better money at times both before and after that job, but that was when I wasn't living in Ann Arbor. A lot easier to get paid when you are in a tech hub.   I was just explaining why I took a boring job where I had to occasionally travel to Munice, IN.   Even then my intention was not to brag about $$$--as an engineer I do well but I'm sure there are people on here that make a lot more than I do.  A board with a bunch of Michigan grads isn't a good place to get into a salary d***-measuring contest.

They only paid me the high rate for about 2 months and then converted me to full time anyway, at which point they were not paying me anything super-special, just more than I could happen to get in Ann Arbor at the time.

I live in Muncie now although it's not voluntary anymore due to my medical condition. May I ask where you worked while you were here? I only ask bc there are two completely different sides of Muncie and if you stayed on the north end it's not any different than a small town in Michigan like Jackson. (I may be biased from living here so long now and sorry for typos bc I typed this with my eyes on my phone)
