Illinois Hockey....

Looks like Illinois hockey is becoming a reality. If I could figure out how to paste the link with this browser that would help.

Hope to see it. I have heard they have a very strong club team and could probably field a competitive team fairly quickly.  The B1G could use another hockey program for scheduling purposes.

I had heard rumors about the B1G also wanting to add North Dakota, is there any truth to that?

Aw, I was so excited. When I previewed the gif embed, it looked perfect. But then once I hit save, it just showed the URL. I want to be one of those cool people who can post gifs and images that everyone can see normally as they scroll. Tgatsb the big change I was expecting as an Android user on the new site. Oh well. But I am SUPER EXCITED about Illini hockey!!!

It'd be great to have more power five hockey teams!

And if we could only get two more B1G schools, we'd have a true Big Ten Hockey Conference.

Cool. It’d be nice if they could pull it off, but I’m always a believe it when I see it guy when it comes to rumored D1 hockey programs. Hope it happens

So, this is interesting. As usual, I'll believe it when I see it. But: There are some promising details here.

1. It sounds like they're already trying to raise the many millions of dollars they don't have. That's a good sign that the athletic department is at least somewhat serious.

2. They have serious plans for what they're doing with the hypothetical arena. It's not just for hockey, but other sports as well. While that might not be quite as ideal as a dedicated hockey rink, it does kind of make sense, and it meshes well with the needs of the department. Come to think of it, replacing Cliff Keen and Yost with a facility that can handle multiple sports including hockey isn't that absurd of an idea.

Still, this isn't a reality until someone actually pulls the trigger and puts a shovel in the ground.

I always thought Northwestern would be a great candidate for hockey.  Great location, proximity to Great Lakes area talent, money to burn (judging by their new lakefront facility), academics, etc.
