It can go better if he is a better quarterback, one that doesn't panic. I'd rather see Peters start in Happy Valley and deal with the consequences than just give up on passing the ball at all.

Agreed. Start Peters. Run the ball, shorten the game. Use quick easy throws with only one or two reads. He practices against the best defense in the country so he shouldn't be overwhelmed with the talent of the competition. Night game in Happy Valley can be intimidating, but who knows, maybe the kid is a gamer.

I think our defense will frustrate PSU and force some turnovers. As long as we get some semblance of competent qb play we will have a decent chance to win the game. If we get the same level of play that we've had the last two weeks things could get out of hand.

I'm sure if Peters was the best option Harbaugh would've played him already but I want to live in a world where O'Korn isn't the best available qb we have right now. Ignorance is bliss.

Well IU started a redshirt frosh over an upperclassman and nearly won the game.  JOK has a good arm and legs but his decision making is poor.

It's miserable and frustrating to watch these games.  This is not the kind of play you expect to see from a 5th year senior.

And why is it that every offensive possession looks like life-or-death?  I mean, every time the pocket starts to break down after 2 seconds my stomach knots up wondering what O'Korn is going to do with the ball.  At this point we're curious if Peters can do better, since it seems to be getting harder to do worse.  If Peters could avoid constantly throwing to double-covered receivers that alone would be an improvement.

He can block, he can pitch and then release to a route, and we recruited him as a QB.

Of course, these "how abouts" are totally unrealistic, but fantasizing can be fun...

How about:

-stop the drive-killing penalties

-receivers that get open (felt before that this was a bigger problem than QB play, but it was better today; DPJ very quietly had a big step up in this regard today, which is exciting)

-JOK makes the proper read (only saw a couple today when he didn't)

-JOK throws the ball where the receiver can catch it, and the defenders can't (this is now our biggest problem)

--

Thankful that the run game got going. Hope it can continue to do so against stiffer competition. But, if we keep showing that we cannot pass at all, we are gonna get bottled up the box and regress in the run game...

Jim will NOT burn the redshirt so Peters is the next guy up. Sometimes it is hard to judge a player from practice point of view. You need to throw in the game and find out how he reacts.

What I saw from Peters during the spring game is what flat out confuses the hell out of me.  It is one thing watching a qb struggling knowing he is just taking his hits in preparation for the next season...it is another watching one struggle who will not be on the team next year.

If he is then this doesn't bode well for us and says that Harbaugh isn't the QB guru we think ? Peters if not mistaken was the #1 qb on our board and he can't beat out a freshmen who can't beat out a qb that looks terrible. Sucks that we had Fred Jackson's son down the road from us and we could have had him if we wanted. He isn't your prototype QB Harbaugh goes after but he is good and better then any of our guys. Is it the system that makes them look so bad if so then shouldn't we simplify it so our QBs perform better.

That is a bit absurd. Ruddock evolved into an NFL draft pick in one yr under JH after fizzling out at Iowa. Speight was having an outstanding year last year until the bad night game at Iowa and subsequent shoulder injury. Speight had a rough start to the year and got hurt. JOK is the same player he has been for the last 2 years with some flashes of improvement but nothing consistent. Peters apparently isn't ready yet, but let's remember he is still only ~16 months removed from high school.

But I hate to even admit it that Ruddock and maybe a few games of Speight but really we haven't had good QB play here.It has been 50/50 which isn't that good need to better and I thought WS would take a big leap this year and Peters would be ready to go but when it came down. to the wire between JK and WS we should have known are QBs haven't improved much. Wilton is smart and knows the offense and defenses pretty good but when the ball is hiked he just turns into something different.

So in theory we are in decent shape for a good season.  We HAVE to have another option at QB.  I don't care if JOK makes one great escape per game, he's not a good QB.  Always seems to make the wrong read.  Overthrew an easy TD to DPJ and has no pocket presence.  This is very disturbing in year 3 with JH.  Painful.

Peters won't start against PSU - that'd be a tough spot for his first start. But after the offense is shutout in that game, he'll start against Rutgers at home.

Considering psu has played literally no teams with half a brain on defense other than Iowa I find it hard to believe. Our d will keep it close but the offense will shit the bed unless we give it to higdon for 30 rushes.. everyone else is literally worthless.. except Isaac who gets fewer and fewer carries even though he dominated our first few games until he got hurt against air force.

If our offense continues to shit the bed, the defense won't be able to carry the torch. Yes, today had some wonky plays, but you also saw a team take advantage of a gassed defense by the end of the game. PSU is going to ground drives and wear us down unless we can get some first downs. Sadly, I think it's gonna be a long ninght next Saturday.
