I almost had a heart-attack - Defense and Special teams

Submitted by nmajali on

This is what i think after the game: OUR DEFENSE AND SPECIAL TEAMS SUCK!!

I also thought: A win is a win, but comeon!! UMASS!! comeon!!

So I have to start by saying that Jordan Kovacs is a STUD! he showed us what a true Michigan Man is today!! wow, i cannot ever believe that he was a walk-on at Michigan.

As for the Offense, great job Denard, I would say Shaw did super, the line was great and the receivers have to get a lot of recognition here. I know it was UMASS, but 42 points is blowout style points, if the defense was half decent and the FG kickers can kick it would be 45 - 20 or something.

Now to the ugliest defense I ever saw, seriously, seriously, SERIOUSLY!!! come on, just something has to be there. No way on earth we can beat the likes of MSU, PSU, OSU, Wisc or even Indiana with that atrocious defense. and even when Cam Gordon (I know he is a freshmen and doing all he can) get the INT, which would've ended the game, he fumbles. That really said the story of our defense. Its almost an automatic first down against then on third or fourth! UMASS wasn't even scared to pass on 4th and 10. Come on GERG you must be able to do something. Maybe against athletes similar to ours in athleticism do some man with some blitzes!! some pressure has to come in on the receivers and the QB! WOW, SERIOUSLY!!

We're not done yet, can anyone on the team kick a FG kick!! any single human, maybe the Punter Hagrup, we can do what Michigan did a couple of years ago when Finley became a kicker!! Get someone to walk-on from the soccer team! And as for punt returns, I don't know what they want to do, but Gallon is not smart about it. I don't care if he's athletic, we just need someone to make decisions back there... no need for big returns. just someone to HOLD ON TO THE DAMN BALL!!

Now to the heart-attack part, Im 30 and if Michigan keeps letting all the games go down to the final seconds (UMASS, UMASS???????!!!!!) then I'm going to have that heart-attack at some-point. A win is a win, but SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!! Anyone care to comment!! Put my heart at ease!

Kris Pauloski was 9 for 9 with a 50 yarder in the spring game but was not invited to summer camp.  Guess RR thinks the current two kickers are better.  Does this make sense to anyone?

Do you realize that by clicking on your username we can see your recent posts? And we can see that nine of your last ten posts say the exact same thing (though you do fluctuate between 8/8 FGs and 9/9 FGs).

Add something to SOME discussion besides "Kris Pauloski didn't even get invited to camp!"

It's tired, and when you post the exact same message in nine of your last ten posts.. that's retarded and adds nothing to meaningful conversations.

Hagerup kicked in high school.  Which makes me think that RR has seen him kick, knows how he kicks, and either thinks Broekhuizen and Gibbons are still better qualified, or has just been holding off before trying a third kicker.

On Gallon's fumbled punt, he had almost no chance of successfully fielding it the way he attempted.  However, I was wondering what the rule is on partial punt blocks?  It looked (on my computer with a pretty good stream, but far from crystal clear) like one of the M rushers got a hand on the punt.  Would UMass be able to recover it after that?

On field goals, the kicking team can't recover the ball if it goes past the line of scrimmage.  But punts have a specific rule that if the receiving team touches it, then the kicking team can take possession.  I don't know what would happen so maybe he was actually doing the smart thing of attempting to get the ball.

it becomes a normal punt.

If it's blocked behind the LOS and recovered by the punt team behind the LOS, then it becomes a normal running play for the punt team subject to ordinary turnover on downs rules.

Gallon had his mulligan.  He clearly didn't learn from the first, so maybe he needs to sit to learn from this one.

why is gallon still our punt returner? he has not made a single smart decision yet this season. what is the point of having a good runner taking the punts if he doesnt even get an opportunity to make returns. at this point i dont even want to get positive yards after the catch. i just want someone who will make the correct decisions on whether to catch it or let it bounce. and when he tries to catch it, he actually does.
