I'm worried about myself because I'm not good natured towards rivals of UM
I was recently at a large theme park and saw shirts from fans of Ohio State and Michigan State. I know rivalries are supposed to be "good natured," but I don't feel that way towards people wearing such shirts. In fact, I immediately feel what might be called extreme animosity towards them. This makes me a little worried about myself. So I guess I was wondering how others feel when they see shirts or bumper stickers or whatever from opposing schools. Do you feel a sort of jocular and good natured competetiveness, or just cold antipathy? I think if Michigan starts winning again regularly I will feel better again, so there's that I suppose.

An Ohio license plate or osu something on a car my immediate reaction is to yell, 'fuck ohio!' in my car and by myself.
If you didn't feel something toward the rivals I would be concerned.

Since a large percentage of license plates at Michigan home games are ohio plates that isn't really fair. I am always part of a steady stream of UM covered vehicles in route up to AA every home weekend from the south. I would be willing to wager that 10-15% of those who care at all in Ohio favor Michigan over TUOOS. In northwest ohio, there are areas where it is majority Michigan faithful. Don't assume I am stupid because I found employment in ohio. :)

I am from NW Ohio, and there are a decent amount of UM fans here.
And I also feel like yelling obscenities to fans of rivals, OSU fans especially.

Is it just me, or do all people from Ohio drive like dickheads? I commute from GR to Lansing to work, and it never fails whenever there is a backup in the fast lane, it's some asshole from Ohio doing 60 in the fast lane. I'm originally from Benton Harbor, and we called people from Illinois FIP's, or Fucking Illinois People. Now I refer to anybody from Ohio as a FOP.

How bad is the commute from GR to Lansing? I have been considering employment elsewhere than my current job and have looked at one place in Lansing, but am not sure how bad the commute is. I have friends who live in Lansing and I've made the drive enough times, but never during a rush hour-type scenario and not much during the winter.

For me it's not too bad, but I think that's because I work 2nd shift and miss rush hour coming and going. I can't imagine it being as bad as 131 or 196 during rush hour, so if you can stomach that, you should be fine. I can usually knock it out in about 40-45minutes. When we lived in Lansing, my wife worked at St. Mary's, and it would take her roughly the same. I have not experienced the commute during winter however, and that bothers me a bit.

People in lansing can't drive. Period. The first rain or snow freaks the hell out of people,and in general, there is just a dearth of good drivers here. The idiotic way the roads are set up doesn't help either
And as a native Chicagoan, I resent your Illinois-people-can't-drive sentiment (on a personal level, not as a whole. there are lots of crappy Illinois drivers, I'm just not one of them)

I agree with your assessment that people in Lansing can't drive. They are turrible. I didn't mean to offend with FIP thing. That was not in a reference to driving. Years ago when Benton Harbor and St. Joe were much nicer, the moneyed people from Illinois would come over to the beaches or their vacation homes and acted liked they owned the place, and looked down their noses at the locals. We liked the "cool" people from Chicagoland, it was the racist snobs we didn't care for. That's who the name was meant for. I highly doubt anybody there now even knows what that means.

I think if you're on the city surface streets, it's a crapshoot. there's too much going on, and yes many people can't drive.
The highways however I feel like good drivers make their mark. If you're ever passing through you'll notice that the right lane is the fastest lane. The reason being a majority of people have issues merging. I'd say that the biggest problem drivers have today is merging. I, a good and relatively aggressive driver, am good at merging, so I move to the right lane so I'll do my own merging and not get slowed down by people who cannot merge. That's what happens with most people, so the right lane ends up moving faster.

I think part of the problem with that is, everyone is ALWAYS merging...because the lanes are like 3 feet wide, so you're constantly in 2 or 3 lanes at a time.

Just about every state says that drivers from other states are the worst ever. Nothing will ever compare to places like New York or Philadelphia. I am flat out scared to drive in those places.

The new NY license plates are bright orange/yellow. My theory is they are trying to color-code New York and New Jersey drivers as a warning to the rest of the country.
The problem is out-of-staters don't understand that even though NY's speed limit is 55 lower than 75 is UNACCEPTABLE !!! in the left hand lane. Then we have to weave through traffic to avoid tourists. Yesterday I was behind an Illinois driver doing 60 in the LH lane on the LIE (Long Island's main highway) and I had to resist my natural instincts to honk + flip the bird because there were a bunch of kids in their car.
I've adopted the "thumbs up" and a ritard face to all idiotic drivers, personally I think it makes them feel dumber than if I merely flipped them off. Just my epinion.

Someone learn me something. Why do UM fans have such a hate for the state of Ohio since we've poached so many great players from there like Desmond and Woodson? After all, in the territory swap that gave Ohio Toledo back in the 1800's, we came out the better because. while they got that shithole, we got the U.P. God bless it.
Instead of hating Ohio in general, I focus my hate on the cesspool that is Columbus, but my personal peeve beyond all others, is Ohio State fans referring to their team as the "Bucks." You are not Bucks, you are Buckeyes. You are not a deer, you are a nut. Referring to your team as "Bucks" evidences either (a) laziness, or (b) your tacit admission that the name "Buckeyes" is pussyish, and needs to be masculinified into "Bucks."
But seriously, I really do want to decapitate any Buckeye fan who says "Bucks." I think I need therapy too.

Really? Well then I guess I should be the subject of people's concern. I don't have any animosity toward our rivals, I just want to beat them. In fact, I get "concerned" when our fans needlessly bash theirs, and can't even imagine having an impulse to yell when I see their bumper stickers or license plates.
Now, have I been infuriated at times by our rivals fans? Absolutely, and have made many a derisive comment when warranted. But I honestly don't know why any person would actually feel an emotion upon seeing a license plate or a t-shirt.
I have a T-shirt that says how i feel about the state of Ohio. It reads, "Buck the F*ckeyes!"
It may be immature, but i love that shirt.
Edit: I realize some might not like this shirt, I hope you can appreciate my loyalty to U of M and dislike of Ohio State.

I know a girl thats related to somebody from OSU, so she commited to the dark side, I don't talk to her anymore because I'm afraid I will tell her something to piss her off. Which would be nice, I should consider that... But I have a friend that likes MSU, we don't really focus about college sports when we talk, because we know we will piss eachother off.

I was taking part in a street act in Victoria, Canada where I had to share where I was from. After the show a man from the crowd said "Good to see another Michigan Man out here." I said "Go Blue!" and he says "Oh, sorry I'm a Spartan" and I said "I'm sorry" and walked away.
I have many friends who are Spartans. Hell, my boss is a Spartan, but if I don't know you I am damn sure going to give you some shit about being a rival.

I am with you. I'm in my mid-40s and I still act like I'm 19 and back in Ann Arbor. I have an unhealthy hate for all things Michigan State.
- For the longest time, I wouldn't drive through Lansing. If I had to get to the west side of the state, I'd go out of my way to avoid EL
- When I was going in for surgery on my knee, the doctor administered the anasthesia and told me to take a few deep breaths and count backwards from 10. My count went like this...."10, 9, 8, State sucks" and I was out (that story was told to me by the surgeon himself).
- My gf/current wife went to State for a year before transferring to Michigan. When I visited her her freshman year, she was wearing a Spartan football shirt. I refused to leave the dorm room until she changed.
- I literally want to beat some sense into Spartans who go on and on about their team when historically, they've sucked balls. I mean, I really want to punch them in the face.
I don't play well with others (Spartans). Sorry. I admit it. I'm an asshole when it comes to them.
