Hutchins challenges No. 2-ranked UM softball team

Hutch on cranking the pitching machines up to eleven during a recent practice:

It’s not about making them feel good every day. It’s about how they respond because when the game comes, nobody feels good unless things go your way. We try to make practice harder than the game. I don’t know if we accomplished it. I have no idea. I’ll find out.

All American LF Kelly Christner on the attitude around practice:

Basically every practice, she would be like, ‘You guys have not earned one thing yet,’ Really making us focus on going out every single game no matter who we’re playing, no matter what the situation is, if we’re winning or losing, just really going 100 percent constantly. That’s helped us.

There's some actual talk about progression at the catcher spot and on pitching. Softball opens Friday morning against Virginia Tech in Tampa and plays #1 Florida the next morning.

They may not have an actual accomplishment yet, but expectations cannot get any higher for 2016, and for good reason.

Michigan FTW Again

in Tampa, you can get tickets from 800-GoBulls or online at USF's website. $5 for a whole day, so if you go Saturday, you'll see our girls take on Florida at 11:45 and USF at 4:30 (along with three other games if you please). I'll be there with the family - I hope to see the rest of the Tampa Bay Wolverines there too! Can't beat a world series rematch on opening weekend for $5...

Can't wait for the season to start, and I love that this is the attitude they've got.  They have all the potential in the world, but potential doesn't win games.  If they can bring this kind of work ethic, though, combined with their talent, there won't be a better team in the country.

It's a shame that this topic has only a handful of comments. This is a legendary coach with a great team that played for the title last year. The LTT court date discussion has 90 comments. We live near coach Hutch and our little community is truly proud of her and her teasm. Talk about true Blue, she exudes excellence and class. Looking forward to a great season.

She really is a fantastic coach. We forget that sometimes because it's not a super popular sport all year, but UM softball under Hutch has been such a juggernaut.

I think sometimes gets overlooked by bigger sports. But, she might be the greatest coach to ever coach at UM.  Sounds like she has this team ready again this year and I look forward to watching and following them this season. Go get the National Championship girls.

Hutch is AMAZING. To put together a program at Michigan that can challenge and beat the southern and western schools, and the heights this program has achieved...she's a legend. I'm guessing the softball field will bear her name after she retires. And Romo as a senior--nuff said. I can't wait to see M rock the ballfield this year.
