How many "style" points do you expect O$U to put up next week?

The Vest can say the BC$ requires O$U to RUTS on hapless UM. This has been the topic all over ESPN, Big 10, etc. starting with Lee Corso this AM. Both O$U & U$C were cited as needing all the style points they can get.

UM will be at least a 20 point U'dog. O$U has to exceed Las Vegas expectations to get "style" points. Will O$U score more than 50?

They could score a 100 and I don't think it would influence the BCS all that much. They're playing a 3-8 team without a QB, last in offense in the BigTen, at home. The only influence this game can have is if M keeps it close or, let's all get drunk!, pulls out a win. I don't think a convincing win would do that much good from a BCS perspective.

But hey, let them go for it. It might make them press the tempo and give the defense turnover opportunities. (Oh, who am kidding)

OSU isn't in the running for the BCS championship game, which is the only game for which "style points" actually count. For all the other BCS games, a team just has to be in the top 12 to be eligible, which OSU will be assured of if they win next week. The margin of victory is irrelevant. A 10-2 OSU will get picked by a BCS bowl if eligible, because OSU (like Michigan) is a big TV/fan draw.

USC is another story. They're still in the running for the title game, so they need to get all the style points they can get.

and USC if both teams win out in conference play would be Co-Champs. Oregon State would get the Rose Bowl bid do to the head to head tie-breaker. Even if the Beavers make it to the Rose Bowl, USC will still get at at large bid if they beat UCLA and ND.

I'm hoping the Beavers and USC win out, the Beavers going to the Rose Bowl and the Trojans getting an at large bid very well could take away OSU's BCS bid.

Then again, if Oregon State wins out and bumps OSU out of a BCS bid, each Big Ten team has a much easier game to win. PSU would play Oregon State again, Ohio State would play in a non-BCS game which almost certainly would be easier, and every other team would be moved down a game. That would make the Big Ten bowl record look better.

best osu can get out of this is a big ten title assuming msu beats penn state (yeah right). other than that, anything short of a blow out will look really bad for them

I love how our ineptitude this season has a chance to bite msu in the ass. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather have a traditional Michigan season, bowl game, etc., but after having to endure sparty fans lording over their amazing win over the worst Michigan team ever, we can prevent them from going to the Rose Bowl. It probably won't even matter though, they'll most likely lose to joepa.

Sparty rooting for us? Don't bet on it. I think the average Sparty fan would actually rather give up the Rose Bowl than root for Michigan to win. You know how fans have those bumper stickers? My favorite teams are (my actual favorite team) and whoever (hated rival) is playing. Sparty reverses that. It's why that fanbase is so bloody miserable and insufferable.

After years of being conditioned to root against Michigan at every opportunity (after App State, one MSU player said "It's like us winning twice!"), can Spartans actually bring themselves to pull for us even when it's in their best interests? It may be a tough call.

Tressel won't run up style points. He'll coast once the game's in the bag.

I wouldn't be surprised if we are leading this game 20 minutes into it or even at halftime. We have had a second half lead six games in a row now.
